Thought it would be fun and do something similar to the hog count.

Please list your kill here, include sex, points, weight, time, county taken and method of the kill. It would be nice if you include a picture of your kill and you can also include a short story.

If you don't like what you see for some reason, PLEASE DO NOT COMMENT, everyone's trophy's are different, lets don't trash the thread.

Now good luck to everyone this year and please be safe out there.

Thanks

It's my wife's deer but I couldnt of been prouder:

Setup:
Sept 28
Morning hunt
Blind: Over food plot / feeder combo
Bow
Comanche County
Doe

You know it always starts in the off season. We have been working hard practicing with our bows in the hot Texas sun. Sweating our butts off putting seeds in the ground!

Well, it paid off the morning of Sept 28. That morning we got up super excited for opening morning and made our walk in the dark to our blind. Finally, we were starting to make out shadows in the darkness and saw 6 does.

I saw my wife single out a doe out of the bunch that was standing broadside. My heart started pumping even though I was just watching. I noticed she wasn’t able to draw her bow back because of nerves, but she pulled it together and tried again and drew back. She settled in and let her arrow fly.
Stuck it! Tucked it in right behind the shoulder and the doe ran into the woods.

We waited the rest of the morning hunt to see if we could double up (had some come later) but no shots presented themselves. Went back to get our golden retriever, Camo, and my dad. It was awesome and I love our hunting stories are always around the family and it is always a family affair!

Let'em go, so they can grow.

This is my first time in the field for bow hunting. I had 5 deer 100 yds behind my blind so I tried some light doe calls to see if I might get a shot at them. They came no closer than 60 yds so I was in the process of getting out of my blind and attempt a stalk toward them when this guy showed up. He was stomping and waving his head, so I quickly settled in Drew my bow and let an arrow go his way. I hit him from 20 yds quartering away from me behind the front shoulder he dropped in his tracks. I understand this doesn't always work out quite like that but I'm definitely hooked to bow hunting now!

Well guys here are some pics of my biggest deer to date and I killed it with my bow. I couldn't kick off the season any better.

I rough scored him quick in the field at 163 4/8"

But after we caped him off and cut his horns brought out the cable and my friend who is official B/C scorer came up with 167 4/8

Gotta love big frames deer. Just wished he didn't have the other two points or he would've been 160 class 8 point.

By the way I used a rage chisel point shot him as he was walking my shot was 24 yards away. When I connected blood went everywhere worked great he only went about 40 yards and there was a blood trail that led to him looked like someone poured it out of a 5 gallon bucket

I took "count" out of the thread, I think the stories and photos are what's important. We are getting great photos, everyone. I hope to be adding a photo after this weekend. Thanks everyone!

Here is the buck I brought home from Stafford County, KS. He is my first black powder kill. I got him the first evening I hunted up there. I was seeing quite a few does in a thick creek bed area behind the blind I was hunting from. They would come and go, and could disappear in the thick brush and creek bed, and only be a few yards away. Finally I saw this bad boy through a very small window in the brush. As I got the gun on him he turned and started walking directly away from. I know if he went very far I'd loose sight of him. He stopped and turned left and stood perfectly broadside to me. I was able to make out his front shoulder line through the grass and took the shot. As the smoke cleared i saw him go down on the spot. It was a perfect high lung shot and I was glad I didn't have to try to track him in that thick brush. I was hunting by myself and by the time I got him gutted and drug out of that creek bed I was loosing light, so the pic isn't the best, but he'll look good on my wall banana

I Killed this buck this week and its by far the biggest buck i've killed and probably will ever kill in my lifetime. Im proud to say i killed in my hometown of Emory (Rains co.) I had some game cam pics of this buck back in early september and devoted the rest of the month putting a game plan together. I had not seen this buck before and was totally in shock when i checked my game camera. Where I hunt is mostly hardwoods and protein was not involved. All the hard work paid off on Oct 2nd when i was able to have a shot at my buck at 22 yards. It happened so quick i never really had a chance to get nervous but afterwards nearly fell out of the tree i was shaking so bad. The deer ran about 75 yards and i heard him crash.

That thing is incredible for Northeast Texas. I hunt next door to you in Wood county and I have never laid eyes on any deer ever around here that would exceed 150".

Big Time Congrats.

WOW, I've hunted where Rains, Hunt, and Hopkins county lines meet and never seen anything close to that. Amazing! I've got family that hunts there in Emory as well, they have shot some nice ones but not even close to that. Congrats!

Well i hate to even post a score because I'm not 100 percent on some of the measurements but i tried to be as conservative as i could and came up with 180 4/8. That doesnt mean thats what he is just saying thats what i came up with. I feel he will within 5 inches give or take. Regardless of score, he's still a once in a lifetime buck.

The thrill is in the hunt, but maximized by success. You define success.

Awesome yea I heard was the official POTTS score.lol

Score is awesome whatever it turns out to be. Very cool accomplishment to harvest a deer free range with no protein or anything but Mother Nature. Outstanding buck of a lifetime. Congratulations and welcome to the forum.

My son's first deer. He missed on his first shot, I never told him about buck fever. After he pulled the trigger, he said he knew he jerked the trigger. And he sounded like he was hyperventilating. The next night he controlled his breathing and made a good shot. He put the blood on his face himself, something he thought up.

My 11 yr old son's first deer ever last weekend during Youth Only in Shackelford county. It was a perfect 95 yrd heart shot...the deer jumped and ran towrds us and piled up 30 yds from us...the only thing that would have made it better is if the deer jumped in the back of the pickup

Great looking west Texas buck. Congratulations to both of you.

Opening day couldn't have gone any better. I shot the 10 pt about an hour after daylight. Then, my dad shot the big 8 about 15 minutes later. Same stand, same gun. Good times.

First deer kill of the season. Brazos County Edge, TX. I was stalking up on a smaller buck that was bedded down. I got as close as I was comfortable to get with does in the area when I looked to my left and saw this guy chasing a doe about 200 yds away. Stalked to about 160 and got him when he entered a clearing. Took me 25 min to stop shaking.

Scored 140 1/8 gross and 136 4/8 net.

I wasn't sure how I felt about the antler restrictions a few years ago, but seeing how the bucks in the area have responded, I believe more of these are in store for the future.

Wish it was with my bow, but this guy was definitely shoot worthy in my book. Put it this way...the first one I've been willing to drop money on to get mounted. He's gonna be gorgeous on my wall and delicious on my table.

Seeing all these kids "first deer pics" makes me excited for when mine is old enough to hunt with me!

The evening before opening day of rifle season I decided to give my bow one more chance before switching to the box blind. I am glad I did to cause I got my first buck that evening from my bow stand. I now know why everyone makes a big deal of bow hunting. It was a completely different expirience compared to being 100 yards out.

Have been hunting this management buck for the past month and a half. Had two other encounters with him, but could never make it work. Friday, it all worked out. Glad to get him out of the gene pool before the ruts gets in full swing up in the panhandle.

That's awesome! One of my favorites so far.

Shot opening evening of rifle season in Nac Co. It was self-defense and he was downwind of me and wanting to know if I was interested in his does. Antler damage on one side w/ 1 7" circumference measurement that I thought was a split MB in the IR trail cam pics. Still got into the 140s bc his good side was really good. Weighed 197 LW
