I read a article last year and it had some pretty cool hunting prayers, poems and such. So I thought I start a thread were people could add their own or what they found. A good start for opening weekend.

This is one of my favorites

" The Deer Hunter's Prayer " - by Dale Sunderlin

Heavenly father, to you I pray,
A majestic deer may come my way.
Let my aim be straight and true,
this my Lord, I pray to you.

A swift clean kill is what I ask,
Take his spirit swift and fast.
For his last breath should not be,
One of pain or agony.

Let his soul,
Come to Thee,
To roam your heavens,
Wild and free.

I was always told by my pastor not to pray for a successful hunt or fishing trip. To pray for safety good company and a fun trip instead.

Do deer have souls in Christian beliefs? I didn't think so but could sure be wrong.

Here a little something I looked up a few months ago.

Genesis 27:3
Now then, take your weapons, your quiver and your bow, and go out to the field and hunt game for me,

Genesis 21:20

And God was with the boy, and he grew up. He lived in the wilderness and became an expert with the bow.

Genesis 9:3
Every moving thing that lives shall be food for you. And as I gave you the green plants, I give you everything.

Dear God listen to our prayer. As we go out in the field to hunt one of your great gifts please watch over us and guide us with care. Let us come home safely to our wonderful families.
If you bless us with a chance to harvest one of your creatures give us the patience to wait for the shot, to use the skill you gave us to make the shot true, and use the knowledge passed down of tracking too. May the animal be treated with reverence and used to the full.
Thank you lord for all of these wonderful things. May your blessing be with us in the fall and spring.
AMEN

Of course the best prayer is one that comes humbly from your heart..

"It is the hunters honor that he protects and preserves his game, hunts sportsmanlike, and honors the creator in his creatures."

That is the English translation of a poem that is written on the label of a bottle of Jägermeister.

This was taken out of A Look At Life From a Deer Stand

A Hunter's Promise-
I, beside this quiet doe
Kneel and for a minute mourn
Between my victory and her woe
My quickly beating heart is torn.

I, on this mountain midst the oaks
Vow to this beast that once had life
We will give thanks when down below
We taste your strength...
Your sacrifice.

I like an austrian tradition i have heard of by putting a bit of green grass in its mouth and saying a small prayer of thanks for its life for my sustenance.

Twas the week before deer season and all thru the house
Not a creature was stirring well except my wife and her mouth.
The camo was stuffed in the bags with care
With all hopes that this weekend I would get to wear.
I’m sure I forgot something to git.
I just hope my camo pants fit.

While packing my stuff all I can hear was the wife yacking.
With hopes that this weekend the noise would be lacking.
But unfortunately for us the bride wants to go
To eat all our biscuits to and fro.

So fellow Hunters I bid you good luck.
In hopes Alex will whack a great big buck.
For next year will come and we go to the lease
Maybe the girl won’t forget her fleece.

Snake don’t forget your rag for your noggin will freeze
Just throw an extra one in it will be a breeze.
Don’t let Reload stumble and Big Bear cough or you may have to
Bump them off.

I hope my try to pick up the torch
will not put me back on the porch.

Good luck
