I have to take the other road. I have owned a bunch of mud motors, long tails to surface drives. They are great motors. They are not the sizzle by any means. They are freakin slow. Somebody said 25-30 miles an hour through 2 inches of water and stumps. Come on??? Get realistic. Put wa realistic load in the boat and go before daylight. The boat is not going to get those speeds loaded, you aren't going that fast through stumps. They have their limitations. They are not the "End all shizzle" like they are made out to be. I don't care what people say, you will get stuck like Chuck even with a mud motor, probably worse with a mud motor. At least with a MM you don't have to worry about trashing your outboard by clogging the water passages with mud making your powerhead overheat. If you get stuck with a MM you at least have the possibility of getting unstuck if you know what your doing. If you have a outboard and get stuck your just plain SOL. I have a winch on my boat along with a couple 10' spud poles I use to get unstuck if I get too shallow. Luckily in NT, most lakes have a good 2' - 4' of silt on the bottom so if there's water you can run in it.

Y'all are forgetting I had a surface drive up until 3 weeks ago. I have run running mud rigs for a long time. If I were to use it for two months of duck and park it for 10 months, I would agree with y'all.
The old saying is one boat won't do it all. I agree with it. I did the mud rigs trying to make them all around and I just had to admit, it was not going to happen. I loved the boat, hated to see it go. With the extras I added, I think it was as close to being all around as possible.
I took it to port oconner. Let me tell you, crossing Espiritu Santos to Pringle Lake, Conti, fifth lake to Panther and back, is a long long way to be holding a tiller. It made me miss the days I would lean back in the leaning post and hold the steering wheel with my big toe, all the while having a cold one. Not standing holding the tiller for an hour.
I just finally admitted, mug rigs are extremely limiting. They are not the ending for all boat problems. Thy one with their own set and I you can admit or see that, I don't know what to tell you.
