I'm hunting the same lease as speed trap. We just got back and man was it hot! Saw a lot of small bucks and bunch of does. One guy shot a nice hog (boar) this morning and speed trap went ADD and had to break in his new Encore on a doe. I agree with MamaJodie, the bucks seem to have bunched back up with the warm weather.
Hey MamaJodie, have ya'll tried the burgers at Theresa's in Jermyn yet? We were going to try them yesterday but had to go to Bryson and wound up eating at Cottons. Cottons makes a dang fine burger themselves!

Hey Dawgkllr,
We haven't had a chance to check out Theresa's yet. But...it is definately on my list. I love a good burger.
I had surgery last Tuesday and haven't been able to make a hunt yet. Just as well...it is so hot. The opening weekend "YAHOO'S" on the road and in the woods can screw things up.

Well Dawgkllr kept texting me, starting around 3:30 p.m., about all the deer he was seeing Saturday afternoon. Me, saw a bunch of dang cows because the guy on the ranch north of me started honking horn about 200 yards from me and yelling for his cows. Of course, this made the cows on my place migrate to where I was hunting.

Sunday morning, saw a total of 16 deer, at least 10 of them were bucks, 4 does and two unknown, but thinking they were bucks also. Shot a doe at 9am after getting down from stand and she came back to see what I was that was making all the noise.

My biggest deer to date was from there 3 years ago. Sunday afternoon, 3:30 p.m. and it was pushing 90 degrees. Typical 12 that scored 144. I bowhunted several days this year and it was hot, but saw deer everytime I went.

Hey dawgkllr, what is ADD LOL.....Thats nothing, I'm looking a .264 Ultra Mag for my Encore now....

Speed Trap, you tryiing to be like me and shoot a 264? This is just another example of ADD with a mild dose of hyperactivity disorder thrown in for good measure hahahahaha. Guess your gonna want those 6.5 bullets back now huh? I tell ya over and over, STAY WITH THE 243!! Thats why my 264 stays in the safe.
And I had to keep texting you to keep you awake so you wouldnt fall asleep and fall out of your tripod. I've told you before Im not gonna load you on the 4wheeler with a broken leg. Im just gonna drag you from the back of the ranch to camp behind the 4wheeler LOL.
Fran, we are hunting the Loving Ranch just west of Jermyn on 114.
If there is anyway possible i want to be in my stand Wednesday evening in time to meet the cold front thats supposed to be here!

Ok, well work and a broken 4wheeler have prevented me from goin hunting until friday. My wife, son and I will be hitting it hard Saturday and hoping that this cooler weather is going to get them up and stirring around.
Speed Trap, to bad you got no kitchen pass this weekend! Would you like for me to go hunt your stands and give you a full report ( you know, the usual data...how big he was, how far he was, how far he ran after I nailed him with little 243, what he will score)HAHAHA You know I wouldn't do that to ya buddy!
Anyone want to meet up at Theresa's or Cottons for lunch on Saturday and swap lies errrrr I mean deer reports?

Ok. How did everyone do? My wife and I saw a whole slew of small young bucks. Trail cameras are starting to record some nice bucks and tons of hogs. Gonna have to slip off during the week for an afternoon hunt or two it looks like the weather patterns may get some of the big ones up and moving.

I hunt North of Jacksboro off 148 and for the last 5 years or so the 12th thru the 16th has been our big buck days. We are seeing lots of small bucks with big bucks starting to show up just after shooting time. I figure with this cold front this weekend should be good for a wall hanger.

OK...You Jack/Young County Hunters.
I made a hunt this afternoon.
If you can believe it...not a drop of rain touched down there. Powder Dry.
The bucks are still together??????? I had does out the butt and several young bucks. They were kinda bumping the does. Nothing too aggravating just yet. Right at dark...too dark, I had three rack bucks come out together.
Anybody else have a report?

OMGG, you serious? I figured for sure we'd get some rain there, we need it. My tank is full from the previous rains and the foodplots are up nice, but it's awfully dry right now.

Last weekend I saw alot of activity on my place in Young County north of Loving. Saw a forkhorn Saturday morning and evening, a nice 8 Saturday and Sunday mornings, the big 10 I took Saturday evening, a spike Sunday morning, a doe and her yearling Sunday morning, and for gravy a big bobcat I was too slow to get my gun on. All of my bucks were moving alone. The bucks were all hitting the feeders though the spike did only go on the outside of my feeder pen, didn't bother going inside. The 8 and 10 had thick necks and dark scent glands so I think it's either going or about too. I didn't see anything chasing the one doe I saw, but I think the bucks were probably looking for one that was ready.

I'm hoping to get my son one of the 8's this weekend. There is a big mature one but in 2 years I've never seen him during shooting hours, then there is the nice 8 I saw both mornings last weekend. That is the one he's probably got the best chance at if the moon doesn't change his patterns. He's been showing up on my cameras during shooting hours alot the past couple of weeks.

Earl

I went yesterday. It is weird how one day can make such a difference. I had an 8pt I haven't seen before trailing some does. All of the bucks I did see, were alone.
IT IS FINALLY HERE!!!
Good Luck to everybody and stay safe.

I hunted Wednesday afternoon. My gun went BANG 2 times but were not gonna discuss why there was no meat brought home. We didnt receive a drop of rain either! My son is hunting this evening and says its already gettin chilly down there. Im headed down tomorrow hopefully in time to hunt the evening hunt.
Good luck to everyone this weekend!
