Anyone ever do this? I have a double ladder stand that I want to convert. Just curious if anyone else has done that. Post up any picts you have to share. Looking for ideas. I'll post up some picts of my creation as I get to working on it.

Never done this conversion, but did build a tripod using 2 3/8 drill stem for legs. Heavy as heck, but also very stable.
Would think you could weld two 12 inch segments of 1.5 inch pipe to the bottom corners of the platform, opposite the ladder, and then slip drill stem cut to the same length of the ladder, over the "nubs" when you set it up. Drill cotter pin holes through both pipes for extra strength and security.
At least that's how I'd approach it.

I don't have pics, but yes I have. Depending on how you want to go about it, you can do as dkershen said or you can heat the existing ladder and bend it to about a 30 degree, then add gussets at the bend. Get 1 1/2" sq tubing and weld them to the back of the seating frame at the same angle. To stabilize the ladder portion, weld about a 3 foot piece of the 1 1/2" sq tubing on the ladder at the bottom on a 45 degree angle and then tie the bottom portion of the that to the bottom portion of the ladder with angle iron of more of the 1 1/2" sq tubing. Maybe a rough sketch will help.

I would be worried about the strength of the tubing on the ladder stand. Most of the ones I have seen are made of very small square tubing.

Have you seen the low end tripods they sell at Academy and BPS? Small square tubing is the defacto building material. But if his base unit is stong enough to work leaned against a tree, it should be OK as a tripod. He's just replacing the tree end of the equation with leg's.

Be sure to, at minimum, tie the added legs to the rails of the ladder, and to each other, about 2/3 of the way down from the top. Once you get up there you want to eliminate the legs flexing. I's probably tie them together twice, for what it's worth.

No doubt. But the best thing is never use small thinwall tubing to support a stand. Even the slightest bit of flex will have you falling on your arse. If the leaning stand is made of small thinwall, I wouldn't think of converting it. Too much to add to make it safe.

Here is what I did up last night. Going to do the same on the other side. I am using pipe hat will slide into he 2 3/8 pipe that I welded on as a sleeve. Will be putting 2 bolts the ought it to lock it into the sleeve. Also plan to put the stabilizers on the ladder like Orn shows. That is a good idea. Will also put bracing between the legs and ladder.

Complete and installed. This little project worked out very well and turned out to be very stable. Here it is in place on the hill overlooking the pipeline. The view is great. 300 yards to the power poll. To the right. The pipeline bends around the corner from the right and the far side all the way is roughly 100 yards. The view behind my left shoulder.
