I was wondering how many of you got a visit by your local GW this weekend. We had couple come visit us on Sunday. We had 20 hunters and were covered up in doves when they showed up. I had two doves land at my mojo when I was getting my gun checked. Ugghhh. Also, I accidentally gave one of them my Texoma Fishing license. oops....i'm an idiot. Had to find my Hunting Lic in my truck. Two of the girls that were hunting w/us got ticketed for no Hunters Ed. But over all good experience. I did feel awkward however shooting at birds when they were directly behind me checking other hunters and our trucks and coolers

Had a visit Sunday morning by the GW as we were walking out of the field. Checks our licenses and counted birds, very nice guy. Did not check the guns and congratulated us on our harvest. My limit was the first he saw.

Just because you haven't been huntin' your whole life doesn't mean you don't want to spend the rest of your life huntin'.

I'm not sure I understand. How does the law read? Is it an age thing?

Warden showed up right in the middle of magic hour. One guy popped off so the warden turned into a hard a--. He said the neighbor complained that her house got peppered. It did not. We woke her up and she was POed.
Everyone was legal (you gotta love it when he really wanted to write up someone), no tickets.

You have to have hunter safety if you were born after '78 I believe

Didn't even see a game warden this weekend.

Shopping with your husband is like hunting with the game warden.
Experience is what you get, when you didn't get what you wanted.

I was surprised, but we didn't see ours. We typically have them swing by opening weekend.

"Three guys that were invited got tickets for no hunter ed."... how can they have a license without hunters ed? Is it possible to get a hunting license without a hunter ed certificate of completion?

Nope, we asked him that and he said it is not academy's responsibility. We asked him that exact question.

You can get a Hunter Education Deferral. A few more rules follow, check out the following link, posted earlier.

I have been hunting in Texas for 35 years, I still read the book before each season.

not sure i understand. does having a valid hunting license automatically assert that you have successfully completed a hunter safety course... or do you have to carry both the license AND hunter safety certificate? seems odd.....

Yes you can get a deferral only for one year and not if you have been issued a ticket. I got my hunters ed in ag class in high school.

I have my hunters Ed, but I thought as long as you were 18 and up you didn't have to have one if you were hunting with someone who had a hunters Ed?

Once you have given it to them it should show up on your license in the following years. I have the card but the HE# is printed right on the license

WOJ...if they take their HE w/in 6months...they can send in proof and they won't have to pay the fine. At Least that is what the GW told both of the young ladies that got tickets that I was hunting with.
