Do y'all mostly use the cattle panel or the hog panel. I am looking into the possibility of stocking the materials for building the pens. Also i would guess that you use 6' t post?
I might have to start building some around my feeders as well because I have hogs just sleeping under my feeders waiting for them to go off and they are killing me on the feed.
Thanks

I think hog panels are the best as far as deer jumping over them but cows will sometimes hop over them too. I usually use cattle panels and cut out a few lower spots for deer to jump. Some people use hog panels with a strand of barbed wire above them too.

I don't smoke ,so I can't say but I highly doubt it. I do know a loud fart works! I think they like the smell plus I guess they think it's a buck grunt. _________________________

I've alwaysed use cattle panels and cut then in half long ways and run one stran of barb wire on top with 6ft T-post, I'm always looking for a way to save $. Never have had an issue in 10yrs doing it that way..Now some little piglets may get through the squares sometimes but not enough to bother anything. Do them round not squared.

Right now I'm just using barbed wire, 'cause years ago when these pens were built hogs really weren't a problem. Well, they are now, and I've been toying with the idea of converting the larger feeder pens to hog panels. It should be fairly simple to convert them to figure-6 traps for the off-season. Not to hi-jack, but has anyone tried this?

I used hog panels and they have worked fine. I used 6ft T posts because I had a ton of them on the place already from previous fences.

I use hog panels and have no issues. Just build the pen large enough to keep all the corn when the feeder spins inside the pen. The hogs will make fewer and fewer trips after a while. If your neighbors have no pens they will start to complain about all the hogs though.

That is one of the problems now is they haven't been feeding so we are one of the only people feeding in are area so all the hogs are at my place and they camp out so much the deer won't come in.

Trust me when you pen the feeders those hogs will move to an area with feeders. I had a buddy that had 5700 LF acres and was feeding free choice protein out of feeders that the manufacturer guaranteed where hog and cattle proof. When we put up pens all his neighbors said they had a huge surge in hog numbers around their corn feeders. I wonder why.....

5' or 5.5' T-posts and 16' hog panel. We make them 32'x32' (2 panels each side) using 18 posts per pen. This setup works well for us.

We use 6' t-posts and 16' x 34" hog panels. Never had a problem with cows or hogs jumping them. IMO the most important thing is to make your pens as large as you can. I think deer, particularly more mature bucks, don't like jumping into small feeder pens.

I use a minimum of 10 cattle panels per feeder. Normally, cattle will not be a problem with the shorter hog panels but it doesn't take but one big boned part Brahma cow to mess up your best laid plans. What is bad is that she may not even clear the hog panel, just come down on top of it...and the wreck is on. The Calvary soon follows.

Why is it always Brahma or Brahma crosses that cause these problems. I've seen them clear 6.5' pipe fences like a deer and they have a tongue that is a foot long so unless the feeder is high they are going to get stuff out.

This has happened to me twice on a McMullen County ranch and each time the damage ended up being over $1500 in feed /feeders. After that, I started using 6' t-posts and cattle panels. Then using bolt cutters I trim the panels down to about 39-40". Seems to have made a big difference. 30incher

We use 12 panels, make the pen round and we use 6 hog panels and 6 cattle panels. We position the hog panels in the spots where we can effectively shoot thru with out worrying about hitting them with our arrows. If we think the hog panels are still slightly too high I cut the top horizontal wire off and bend out all the vertical wires so they act as a deterrent to any hogs or cattle who try to jump in. We have had great success with our pens and the bucks really use them because there is no pressure on them from the hogs. We use only gravity feeders in our pen and then place a spin feeder about 50 yds. away so we can still shoot hogs. We place a bow box between both feeder so we can shoot either direction. Works great

When I hunted a feeder, I just strung barbed wire around convenient trees. All I needed was a role of barbed wire and a roll of baling wire. Feeder pens don't have to look like they've been engineered.
Practice doesn’t make perfect. Practice makes permanent.

Try keeping hogs out with bailing wire and barbed wire. I wish you the best of luck.
