For me it's kind of like putting on the seatbelt....parents made us wear them before it was the law and its always just something I do.

Grandad used to run cattle on his place and so we always just picked the hulls up. It really doesnt take much effort.

Agree if someone gives you the privilege to hunt on their place it should look better when you leave. Leaving hulls, beer cans, and huge gut piles will not get you an invite back.

If they don't pick 'em up at our place, they don't get invited back.

Thanks Greg, I could not agree more. That is the difference between us (Hunters) & them (takers / killers). I promise to do everything I can to preserve the good reputation of true "Hunters". This is important because population wise, our numbers are getting smaller and smaller (percentage wise) every year.

I was taught from a young age; pick up your trash, do your best not to leave tire ruts in the fields, and leave the place better than you found it. If a limb or brush blocks the path, pick it up and do not create a new path.
It's a shame some have little respect for the owners and land in general.

so one person sharpens another.

mad that's just pure laziness and being disrespectful. I brought a guy out to dove hunt about 4 yrs ago at a place that the land owner has allowed me to hunt for the past 9 yrs. all he asks is "if you pack it in pack it back out". Well we hunted that morning told my friend to keep track of hulls and whatever trash that may be on ground and take it out when we leave. I go back out in the evening and walk around field and get to where he hunting that morning and there were over 20 hulls laying down the fence line. Called him up and he said they weren't his. He was shooting a 20 ga and all hulls were 20's as well. Asked land owner if anyone else hunted out here and he said just me. Needless to say I don't take him hunting with me anymore or really talk with him either. Doing crap like that can really screw it up for the others that appreciate the people that allow you to hunt their land.

I only pick up my hulls when I'm poaching and don't want anyone to know I was hunting there.

Some folks got no respect at all. Idiots like that make it harder and harder to find land owners that are willing to give anyone access to their properties. And with carp like that I can understand why.

I am sure that I am guilty of leaving a few of my hulls behind from time to time simply because I can not find them, but I make up for it by picking up everyone else's that I come across. If everyone did that none would ever be left behind.

up That is what I strive to do. I try to leave with more hulls than I came in with.

Could not agree more. I cannot always find all of my hulls but try to make up for it by taking responsibillity for others hulls and random trash. I have heard the excuse that the farmer will simply sew the hulls back into the ground and does not care but I do not agree with this. Not to mention that I have never seen a sewn hull grow into anything but buried trash.

Hunted a place years ago where for every drink in your cooler you paid a $5 deposit and $20 for every box of shell. Had to dump you empty cans at the gate for counting and for every 20 hulls(and the cardboard box), you got your $20 back.

Guy running the hunt said ,even at that cost, for every group for every group of 10 hunters, he probably had $100 - $120 bucks unclaimed...which he paid to his grandkids to clean up the mess left behind.

We all need to practice Whoa more.

There is no excuse for leaving a mess if it is a paid hunt or not. I cleaned up messes on public before too, somebody has to pick it up.

I would happen to guess that IF one group had left all the trash in the 1st pic, that he wouldn't want them back!

As a whole because dove hunting is probably the easiest type of hunting for a nonhunting type to get into you probably have a lot of guys that just don't get the whole conservation and taking care of property thing.

I've found my favorite public hunting spots looking for signs of lazy folks.

anybody that does that would not get to come back and i would not want to be around people like that, and just because you paid to hunt doesn't give you the right, just be a human being!

I have acces to 3 properties around me and all the owners have requested is that it stays clean. I have narrowed it down to my brothers now. Even some of the nicest people I know, by habit, just throw trash on the ground. I don't mind picking it up but when they ask " When are going out to place again?" I just smile and say "When you learn to leave the place cleaner than you found it." I'll admit I've lost a few hulls in the thick stuff but I carry a magnet now so I don't do it anymore. Cows will eat anything.

Sometimes it's hard being me! But somebody has to do it.
