What the opinion on the best chokes for taking dove. I shoot all modifieds in my bird guns, any other ideas?

If they are low and fast I'm using a skeet choke so I don't turn them into a mini feather pillow and wider pattern for my error. Pass shooting I use modified. Every situation is different.

The one you can drop them with. You'll have to answer your own question due to your shooting skills and situation.
I'll take a Black Female every time.

depends on the situation.
shooting loafing birds over a tank or mojo, I used a skeet choke with a heavy dove load. for years I used a improved cylinder and would drop birds like nobodys business out to 35-40 yards.
my current gun has a modified in it, fixed choke which is why i'm shooting modified. it helps when those Whitewings are flying just a little bit higher.
when I shoot a O/U or SxS I choke it improved Cyl. and Mod.
I think majority of dove hunters overchoke themselves for the situation.
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I use my skeet/sporting clays gun with two Skeet Carlton's extended tubes or an 870 with an modified Carlson's tube. I think anything tighter then modified is overkill, literally.

I like IC. Is good to wing them and be able to find them flopping in heavy brush at times if not hunting in a cut field. I do take Mod to Cylinder with me just in case wind is blowing 50 or they are landing 10 feet away.

I never experimented with anything else other than a modified. It was what my dad taught me on and even through the years, I still manage to take good numbers it's the ones way out there that I over compensate for and sometimes just let fly out of my compassion towards dove.

As many others have said, start with IC and go from there.

They say barrel length doesn't matter, so I am not really sure, but I have a franchi 712 30" barrel that will put them down at 50+yds on an IC choke...11/8-71/2's. No bs....the pattern on this gun seems tighter than the same chokes on my beretta o/u. just my personal experience.

length is all about steady swing.
an advantage with distance shots.
