First bow kill about 20 years ago was the first animal I ever drew back on. Rattled an 8 pt up to 32 yds -- neck shot literally dropped him in his tracks DRT. Beginners luck. Arrow was lodged in his vertebrae and I had to unscrew it get it out. I thought, "hey, this bow hunting isn't as hard as everybody makes it out to be. Whats the big deal?!" I learned pretty quick that I was wrong. The next season I had to follow a measley blood trail over a mile looking for a buck I made a poor shot on.

My first buck was a cull/management 8 point I was invited to shoot on a ranch in Del Rio. The ranch manager helped me clean him and green scored him for me. Me being a novice knew for sure I had killed the smallest buck I had seen that day and did not keep the antlers or score card. I knew not what I was doing. I seldom tell this story because it is not easily believed. The buck was a 160" 8 point. The ranch manager said nobody wanted him they wanted the 180-220" bucks. We ate steak that night and drank patron tequila. Im sure I thanked them but I had no real appreciation for that hunt until years later. I also took a large aoudad on that hunt. He said they were a nuisance and needed to be killed. This entire trip was free. I didn't even pay for fuel.

ive been hunting since I was 12 and still have yet to harvest a Buck with my Bow. Im pretty sure its a curse and work schedule doesn't help much. I have harvested many other creatures with my bow though. I aim to change that this year.

I shot my first whitetail buck last year at 48 after my sons shot bucks at age 7 & 8 (they are now 15 & 17).

I shot my first turkey at the age of 13 with my grandfathers Winchester model 62 pump .22 just after dusk, across the creek, with the hen in the tree the day before season opened.

No license, after dark, with a .22, out of the roost, out of season.... whip

What is odd about my hunting resume'?....

One time I had to finish a hog hunt completely naked...except for socks.

Never shot a deer I did not like. People ask," How did you catch him" and I say,"I just convince him to give up and jump into my ice chest... or "I dispatched a stupid pill his way & he stepped in front of it". HA!

There has got to be story with that.

We put a feeder right on the Mason/Menard County line. We always joked about shooting a deer on the back side of the feeder would have to be tagged Mason County.
While sitting with my daughter a twelve pointer came out and acted antsy and was going to walk off. She shot him quickly and the bullet carried through into the buck behind him.

Good one. I never heard of anyone doing that.
But the naked pig hunt guy has got me a little concerned.

When my buddy and I were 14, hunting rabbits with pistols, it took 3 shots from a .45 and 2 from a .357 to take down one really pissed off possum.

I didn't start hunting until I was 32, and have never hunted successfully in North America. Got my start hunting in Germany and haven't looked back. I once shot a Roe doe during the season twice from 220m away with 8x57 with both shots falling less than 1.5 inches apart. First shot went through the liver and she ran 30m and stood still like she wasn't hit. I reloaded and hit her in the liver again and she dropped.

Korea is nothing like Germany, and no amount of Army Modernization propaganda will convince me otherwise. I miss my wife and kids something fierce

I once caught a turkey with a dip net. I let it go.

I once shot a bird out of the air mid flight with a Benjamin .22 caliber pellet gun when I was about 10 years old.

lol, those benjamins are bad arse guns.

a buddy of mines dad had some goats that would get over the fence and stand on top of his car. he kept a Crossman pump bb gun to shoot them and scare them off, he shot one behind the shoulder with a BB and it hopped off, stood still then started coughing up blood. it keeled over about a min later.

he stopped shooting them and took to chunking rocks. a week later he threw a rock and it hit a goat in the knee and broke his leg, which had to be amputated.

I also know a guy who killed a wounded goose with a pair of channel locks that he sidearmed into its kneck while it was hobbling down the road.

For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I've never hunted ducks even though I have access to flooded timber and a cabin and blinds in the Laguna Madre.

Ive had deer that would almost eat out of your hand while you were walking around with a bucket of corn that would snort and hi-tail it from 50 yards away from a loud fart coming from a deer blind.

It's hell eatin em live

Well... to set the stage I had clients in town who were hunting exotics and they wanted to do something a little different...THE END.

Oh that is different alright. Who was your client, Anthony Weiner?

Ok.. that's not the end of the story. The clients heard us talking about running hogs with dogs and decided it was crazy, and exactly what they wanted to do. We caught a nice boar which I had to carry a pretty good distance out of the woods. That go me so covered in mud and hog goo that I had to remove my shirt and continue with the hunt topless.

Where things really went wrong was later in the night when we had a small hog caught in some mud on the side of an almost dry tank. The way we approached the hog and dogs put us coming up and over the dam. For some dumb reason I decided to just jump off the back of the dam and land beside the dogs and hog.. it was only a 5ft drop what could go wrong?

It was like jumping into a bowl of sticky oatmeal. I hit the mud and my momentum drove me up to my chest into the sticky stuff. I panicked and tried to get free but I was as stuck as stuck could be. Good news was that I really wasn't sinking anymore, bad news was there was no way I was getting out alone.
Everyone was laughing their tails off at my expense and the clients asked in all seriousness if this was a normal thing that happened. The rest of the guys were able to easily get to the dogs and hog by going around the drop off I had jumped from, and then get over to where I was.

In the process of extracting yours truly from the mud I lost both of my boots, my pants and my boxers...but thankfully I still had my socks on! It was a choice of coming out of the mud without my pants, or staying there all night.

How far were we from the truck?... about a mile. But walking naked in socks through cactus and mesquite scrub I would have told you it was at least ten miles.

Where there women with us? Yes. Client's wife. I walked at the back of the group.

Did I at least get a big tip? Don't remember....it was so overshadowed by the other events of the evening.

Everyone had a good time (except me) and a great laugh at my expense...... And that is the last time that I:
A. Jumped into mud from a elevated location
B. Forgot to wear a belt on my pants
C. Was ever so afraid of cactus spines
E. Was naked with another man's wife in the dark
F. Loved a pair of socks so much..they were better than bare feet

Thus ends the story of finishing a hog hunt naked and the strangest thing (thank god) on my hunting resume!

Grew up in a home, 1 of 7 kids, where my mom hated guns. Dad worked two or three jobs so never really had a time to do things outoors. Started hunting and racing cars when I moved out when I was 18 back in the seventys. About the only place I can think of finding peace is being on the deer lease at day break and watching God's creation unfold a brand new day. Now that is living!
