Smart if you ask me.. up

My dog is 100% ducks now, I stopped taking my dog dove hunting few years ago, for a variety of reasons:

The heat – Always having to worry about your dog over heating, it dictates where you hunt many times because you have to find a spot with shade etc… It also can dictate what time you stop hunting in the morning to cut out before it gets too hot, dictate when you start hunting in the afternoon so it is not so hot. And also when you are on the road, and you want to hit a restaurant after the morning hunt, can’t leave your dog in the truck because dog will over heat...

Rattle snakes – I don’t want my dog to get bit by a rattle snake.

Fetching dove my self is no big deal – Not like you have to go swimming for it, its dove in a field.

Dove have little if no scent, especially in the heat – Yeah yeah I know, your dog is great. I’ll be the honest one and say many times I can find the dove better myself with a good mark and picking your shots. I have seen my dog standing right next to a dove and could not find it.

Lastly, I like my dove to look pretty and not all slobbery.

Oh I know, you only hunt to watch the dog work, give me a break!

I did, best hunt I remember, I sat my big azz on a stool, on a tank dam, shot a limit, don't think i ever stood up.

OKAY, now I will sound like a dog snob, BUT PLEASE, if you take Rover dove hunting PLEASE make sure he is steady and will not break on every shot from every shotgun in the field. Nothing pisses other hunters off more than your dog running wild in a field while YOU scream "hear" till you pass out.

If he/she is not trained, which is about 99% of the dogs I see in the dove field, leave the poor thing at home in the A/C.

Weather pending...... Way too large of an investment to risk in this heat.

Dove is our chance to get on that same page again. We work together for the majority of the year. But dove is when we both work off the rust we missed during training.

We interrupt this marriage for hunting season.

^^^This^^^

No Joke. Y'all be careful out there. Just today I was working outside with my Vizsla Dash Rip Rock. Hot day like a typical Dove season. It was like spontaneous combustion. His paws just lit up. Poor guy. He is hotter than a firecracker. The color on his akc registration should have been put down as burnt orange rather than rust.

I have no desire to hunt any kind of birds if I'm not able to take my dog.
