I haven't shot a buck in 3 yrs, unless you count spikes. My boy started hunting and I always try to save the good ones for him. I've had some dandys come in while I was by myself doe hunting, but when I bring him the next day or next serval days, they don't show.

Even though I was born and raised in Texas I didn't kill my first and only Texas deer until I was 27yo.

With all my time in the woods, I still have not had a legitimate opportunity to kill a coyote. The closest I ever came was back when I used to bow hunt. I had a big one with a gorgeous coat at 25 yards, but he busted me when I came to full draw.

Glad to hear I'm not the only one having problems with killing Yotes. My BIL just started hunting bout 4yrs ago and he has already shot a mess of them.

I have no desire to shoot coyotes. It would have to be working a trophy buck post rut for me to raise my rifle.
Other than that, my first duck on the fly was a Canvasback.

I once shot 6 times at the same doe and missed all 6 shots.
Checked my gun at the range, dead on. Can't explain it to this day.

I was 17 years old when I saw my first native deer on the ranch. Now they come up to the house. It is a good life!

The first deer I killed was a big fat doe in east Texas by Gilmer on paper mill land. I was so excited I didn't even think about does being illegal to shoot. I got home luckily without being caught. I ate every scrap that doe had to give me. I've been hooked on venison and deer hunting since.

I shot the head off a pheasant at 10 yds on the rise with a shotgun. The bird flusd fron my left and was flying across my front, I was trying to pivot to take it going away on the right and accidently pulled the trigger.

I taught a cat how to quail hunt and shot a flying turkey with a 16 gauge shotgun slug.

My first dove was flying straight in and fell in my hand after I shot him. He was so torn up from being shot close with a full choke that there was nothing left to eat. Also showered me with blood and sheet. Still was a good day.

I had a ND inside the blind with a Remington 700 about 18 years ago. Thank God the gun was pointed in a safe direction. It scared the crap orap out of me. I had the gun looked at, the trigger checked out and it hasn't happend since.
It is my favorite deer rifle and has put alot of meat in the freezer. I still don't trust it and will never let anyone else use it but me, but it is my go-to rifle.

Biggest buck I ever shot, I wasn't even hunting. Uncle from Dallas was at ranch and wanted to hunt and wanted someone to go along in case he shot something. So we took the ranch truck and ranch rifle, model 8A, 30 Remington semi auto with side mounted scope. We went to grandma's land just west of Enchanted Rock. Parked away from blind and were walking among trees and granite outcroppings. In a low area we spotted a bunch of deer. Uncle spots a typical 6 pointer and blasts it. We go to it and he starts gutting it and had handed me the rifle to hold. Now I was fairly familiar with this rifle and shot deer with it since it was the only gun with a scope. His shot echoed in the canyon and deer were confused and running every where. A big buck with heavy dark horn, 8 pointer comes trotting by at about 35 yards. Uncle whispers shoot him. I threw up the rifle and fired at ribs. He took of at full speed and uncle says you missed, shoot again. By this time he is going over a knoll and a luck shot hits him in the neck just below the head. First shot was true and would have gotten him down. This was between xmas and new year and buck has been breeding and stunk so much that dogs wouldn't hardly eat the chili meat. He scored 109 B&C.
It's also odd that out of approximately 150 deer I've shot, only 3 were bucks, besides cull bucks/spikes. First deer basket 10, this 8 pointer and another 8 that had very bad ground shrinkage. I have waited for a 10 point buck to get out of the way to shoot a doe. You could say I don't care for old buck meat, but would shoot a better horn that scored more than the 109, wide rack and long tines.

Hunted for many years and watched a lot of deer walk off. Never had the urge to shoot and clean 'em. Shot my first one in 2009, a small buck. The next year I shot my second buck, 17 points, 220 lbs. I was tickled to death over that one. Have taken several since then.

When I was about twelve I snuck up on a fenceline before daylight that I knew a lot of dove were roosting on. When it got daylight enough I stood up slowly and shot downline with the fence and killed 6 birds in one shot. Mom was pretty mad when she started looking for me and I was outside cleaning birds, and had to be at football practice in about five minutes.
I've never been a duck hunter, but when I was a little kid and still sitting in the deer stand with my dad, I bugged him about shooting one off the pond until he said yes. He said I would blow it up with my 30-30, or miss, so aim for the head. I aimed for his head, and when when we got to the bird I had shot him straight through the neck. The head was barely hanging on by a little skin and the breast meat wasn't touched.
If ducks had horns I'd probably be a duck hunter. I am a horrible deer hunter. Probably the worst. Ever.

I've only been hunting once, 22 years ago. Trip ended in a near-miss accident that scared me so bad I haven't been hunting since. I'm 36 now and plan to go on my second hunting trip this next hunting season.

Killed my first deer when I was 27. I only hunted a few times growing up b/c my dad never took me but I fell in love with it from day one. Took me a few yrs once I was on my own to get out in the woods b/c I was a little nervous hunting on my own with little experience. Now I have hunted Hog, deer, dove, and Turkey. Only one of those I haven't harvested is Turkey and I tried that for the first time last spring and got close a few times.

Great story! Can you tell it again?
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

I was accused of and plead guilty to hunting deer at night.
I'll swear on my nuts we were not hunting! And I'll bet $100 there is no record of the arrest... I guess I need to check into that some day.
The true story is we were drunk and looking for some friends that were already supposed to be there.
We spent the night hand cuffed in a horse trailer and the next morning court was held in an old abandoned adobe ranch house right there on the spot.

Rick,
How do you plead guilty to something that you didn't do?

Rick,
How do you plead guilty to something that you didn't do? Well.... I/we were about 20yrs old, GW whispered to us that it would be a lot cheaper if we just plead guilty. AND if we did he wouldn't charge us with the use of a spotlght. Two other "kids" showed up and they plead not guilty, the "judge" said, "GUILTY $500.00 FINE!" We plead guilty and were fined $125.00 each. (We figured that was $50 each for the other people there, GW, Constable, "judge", and two kids that "plead guilty". As I said I'd bet $100 it's not on record, and another $100 that the "judge" and the kids we the constables wife and kids. "Trial" was held in abandoned adobe ranch house, "judge" wore everyday clothes and sat in a recliner behind a kitchen type table.

I have never killed a branched buck but had to sit and watch two deer in the 130's and one deer pushing 150 eat corn for 45 mins and walk away. Didn't have permission to kill a buck on the property...
I have killed or been holding the light for 15 or so bobcat kills, I have killed 1 coyote and 0 fox.
I killed a deer with a field tip... I had spine'ed a spike and his head was still up, breath out, squeeze the release put it right in the back of his noggin, fastest follow up kill ever

I shot a mallard drake out of the air with a Winchester .30-30 once. I don't care if you don't believe me....
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.
