Back to topic...when its dark, the mind tends to stray because at times we DONT see what it out there..birds, armadillo, ect...

And with armadillos being the slow, dumb, stupid things they are..they are the most frequent things I run into onthe way to or from the stand. When the leaves fall off the oaks around here, it sounds like a large herd of pigs going thru when its ONLY 1 armadillo. Go figure.

you know I dont most of the time unless my little boy is with me,but after that whole "can you find the snake"picture,
you can bet your sweet #$% im not leaving home with out it,but second thought as camo as that dude was a flash light wouldnt help.
if something is going to jump out of the woods and get me,I dont know if a flash light would help,I guess it would help me find some toilet paper to clean my underware.

I have this thing about spiders. I can actually run without ever touching the ground if I feel a web get on me. Not to mention the spider itself. I walk with a 3' or 4' stick in front of me, waving it to and fro like I'm fending off a Dragon or something. I use a small Streamlight Stylus with a green light in the other hand. It's funny though, snakes don't bother me. Spiders make me come un-glued.

No doubt. Why is this person even on here. Maybe she should think about finding another forum to harass. I haven't read one post of hers that even comes close to being informative or supporting. Sabrina, please just bow out gracefully.

Hunting is more to me than Antlers on the wall. It's more about the memories you make, and sharing those memories with friends, and family.

Not usually, but yes, at times they will.

"Does anyone think a boar would actually charge and attack? "

If cornered or threaten they sure WILL charge or try to attack to defend themselves.

This is the only thing that makes me cautious when I am going to my stand. I know that 99% of the time they will run but I still don't like HOGS. If I come across this guy in the dark you might read in the paper that a 35 year old hunter died of a heart attack while walking to his stand. I think I am scared because me and a friend of mine were chased back to my john boat at cooper lake back in college. Yes it was a sow with little ones but still scared the crap out of me. Just remember hunt with someone you can out run. Again here is the guy that scares me and he needs to die a slow painful death.

On opening morning I was walking to my stand, and there is a little walk way about 3 foot wide going through my creek. The woods are thick on both sides, can't see 2 feet into the brush. Something with a deep growl was growling at me from just a few feet away. I could not see it, but I took out my .357 and speed up to get to a bigger clearing.

Being "scared" or "nervous" is different for most folks,
both in the object and what triggers it.

Getting that momentary "chill" that comes and then
goes for myself can be traced back to the old stories
we were told as kids. It most always revolved around
a person that had been driven mad one way or another
and so lived out their days out in the uninhabited areas.
Whenever some unsuspecting "victim" happened to stumble
up on them (always on a dark night) the Mad Man/Women
(for some reason the Mad Women always seemed scariest)
they would rain down an unrelenting and EVIL rash of terror,
usually without ever being seen themselves and the victim
would usually never been found.
These momentary chills, for me, are never about critters
like hogs or coyotes or big cats. It's always about
a flash back to being a kid that some older person had
fun terrifying. Heck, it's what folks did before
video games and internet forums.
