Took my daughter out to shoot yesterday at Carter's Country and noticed signs that restrict "tactical" rifles to a small section of the range. And I 'm not talking about just one or two signs but several.

Not to offend anyone, but are shooting ranges taking this action to combat those who enjoy playing Rambo?

I say this too because the range announcements also asked that shooters pause at least one minute between shots.

One minute between shots? That's excessive IMO. 5-10 seconds seems like plenty of time between shots.

I don't go to the range, we have family land thank god, but I wouldn't enjoy shooting if I had to countdown between shots.

Believe it is one second between shots. The reason for the limited area is because most semi auto rifles sling their brass quite a ways. The area is for people that don't want to be rained on by hot brass from someone not considerate enough to use the provided brass deflectors.

A minute between shots? That's a little ridiculous. Maybe 5-10 seconds. Probably just trying to stop the guys trying to dump a 100 round mag with a slide fire stock but a minute seems a little steep.

All I shoot on is public ranges. .5 second splits are slooooooow.

I belonged to a club where there was a 5 second wait. Had to do more with messy with the other shooters. There were a ton of benchrest shooters and constant shots from the AR next door was less than desireable for that perfect group.

My guess is that is what is happening here. They dont want the ARs messing with the other shooters.

Unfortunately a majority of the people that own ARs don't know how to shoot them properly, lack sufficient training or go macho man show off time.

I agree - the range I go to is pretty tight and not much room with flying brass.at times. dont think it's a conspiracy...

That's what I want in a range as well, one that runs a tight ship.

I was at this same range several months ago when they closely checked a guy who was using a silencer on his rifle. He was asked to show his permit. Not sure if it's true, but I was told they would likely report him to local law enforcement had he not been able to present it. Not sure how strict they are about such things.

at DFW (before it burned down) one of the range guys said "he was require by law to check my licenses". I handed him a stack of form 4 copies, I'm pretty sure he had no Idea what he was looking at. I'm pretty sure there is not such law either....

edit: I was shooting SBRs and Suppressors

That ridiculous I agree that 1 min is to excessive, time for a different range when people start to dictate your fun.

People abuse ranges and range equipment. It's a fact of life. I've been a member of a local range for 20 years and I see it every time I go out to the range. We have a limit of 5 rounds in the magazine and no rapid fire. It's a about safety and responsibility. Something some shooters need to work on.

That's ridiculous, must be owned by a FUD.

AR15 is far and away the most popular gun in America.

This is a newest reason I can add to my list of why I hate public ranges.

Before he passed away, Steve Wayman had an office at that range for selling NFA - that's were I bought my first suppressor. If the same guys are still working at DFW then they are pretty familiar with NFA toys even if they stretched the truth on seeing your forms. Steve had a M60 sitting on his desk in the back, along with several pretty cool toys.

That's where I stand. I guess I am a FUD. Maybe a FUD like me owns the range and doesn't care for ARs blasting either. Or maybe he caters to FUDS like me IDK. I say deal with it, go to the non-FUD ranges, and quit griping about it.

+1. It's their range, they have the freedom to run it as they want to. I also have the freedom to choose not to go there and put up with their silliness and the general public's idiocy as well. I can't stand public ranges. cheers

Fudd, as in Elmer

Being popular doesnt mean the owners have common sense or a sense of decency when other shooters are around.

If I want to play tactical tom and run 30 rounds off in 5 seconds, I am using a bay that is all mine so I dont interupt other shooters. If I am sighting in or load development, I am shooting at the bench and following the rules.

I dont enjoy ranges where people dont have any regard for fellow shooters. I have been swept a few too many times to enjoy a public range.

Texas Flip nailed it.

Fudd

Slang term for a "casual" gun owner; eg; a person who typically only owns guns for hunting or shotgun sports and does not truly believe in the true premise of the second amendment. These people also generally treat owners/users of so called "non sporting" firearms like handguns or semiautomatic rifles with unwarranted scorn or contempt

Edit:

There was a famous guy who wrote about this and he is the one that people originally called Fud over this. If I recall going against black guns ruined his career on writing about firearms.
Zumbo is name? can't remember.
