Cabala's has Savage 11/110 Trophy Hunter XP packages on sale for $499, and there is a coupon floating around for $20 off any purchase of $150+. This setup comes with a Nikon BDC 3-9x40 and the accutrigger. I am planning to pick one up either this evening or early in the morning. That combo should only run about $50 more than the Axis with a ProStaff and is definitely worth the upgrade.

The adjustable trigger would be worth the $50.00!

Another Lefty here, I have a Savage 110 in 270 win. Out of the box, checking with nothing other than a bore sight, I took it out hunting. First shot took an 8pt buck. The next two shots took down two coyotes in succession. One was on a 'dead' run, at about 60yrds. I have the 110 package with the Bushnell scope at the time. I have since upgraded the scope and would not hesitate to hunt any North American animal with it. Very accurate, reliable weapon. I would recommend this same package in 243 for your daughter, she would have a great gun for about any game in Texas. So you bought a rifle and took it hunting without ever taking it to the range? That's not very wise and certainly not a testament to the quality of the rifle Why so critical, it worked for him? He may keep his shots under 50 yds. At least he didn't leave any animals wounded. Maybe he got the rifle and didn't have time to go to the range. His experience is better than those who spend two hours at the range and then leave animals wounded because they try 450 yd shots that they have never made. Not many people can say their first three shots were successful. Why so critical? The insipid thought process on this sight is always entertaining!

Mariellen shot her rifle tonight for the first time. Scope was on the paper at 25'. Bout 3" low and to the right 3". Tomorrow after church we will finish dialing it in..

That combo should only run about $50 more than the Axis with a ProStaff and is definitely worth the upgrade. I could not resist, and came home with a left-hand Savage 11 .308 with the Nikon BDC scope for exactly $520 with the latest $20 coupon and the $499 price through tomorrow. The rifle handles very well, but it may be a candidate for a carbine conversion. It seems like this rifle would shine at 18". The detachable box magazine is clunky and the "catch mechanisms" are simply indents on the fiber stock. I might seriously look into upgrades or fixes in this area. I like the scope that came with it. Although I simply prefer the "Nikoplex = duplex" sight; I believe I can deal with the BDC reticle. I did change the rings to some Weaver rings that might not be much better; but I think I prefer them. I wanted to shoot tomorrow morning, but life gets in the way. I may not have a range report for a couple of weeks..... Unless someone in the Terrell area has a place I could sight in a couple of rifles this weekend. I would be glad to compensate kindly.

Mariellen shot twice and I shot once to see where we were. Had a group less than 1" shooting off shoulder. I think that was darn good. Thanks Savage!

This Axis preformed flawlessly! Mariellen was five for five shots on our recent hunt. All the shots were well after dark. The Nikon scope gathered the light remarkably well also. The .242 Remington Core Lok did the number on each kill.

I shoot left handed as do 3 of my four sons. The Savage is a good beginner rifle and so is the Remington SPS. Both will fit your need. Make sure and get something you want also. Just in case she quits hunting. I gave all of the boys several and now only one wants to hunt.
