IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL NOTICE - November 7, 2011
PRODUCT:
Thompson Center Venture Rifle

DESCRIPTION OF THE HAZARD:
During an internal technical review, Smith & Wesson determined that some of the sears used on Venture rifles produced from August 1, 2011 to October 28, 2011, may not have been manufactured to specification. Because the sear is an important part of the firing mechanism, we are asking that all of the rifles produced during this time period be returned to Smith & Wesson so that the firearm can be inspected by our technicians to ensure that the rifle operates in a safe and appropriate manner.

Smith & Wesson Broadens Thompson Center Venture Recall

PRODUCT: ALL Thompson Center Venture Rifles manufactured prior to October 28, 2011.

DESCRIPTION OF THE HAZARD: During an internal technical review, Smith & Wesson identified a condition that may exist with the sear supplied with some rifles that would allow the rifle to fire without the trigger being pulled. In the interest of consumer safety, we are initiating this recall to allow for the prompt inspection and, if necessary, the repair of each rifle.

DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT INVOLVED: This broadens the recall announced by Smith & Wesson on November 8, 2011. This recall applies to ALL Venture rifles manufactured prior to October 28, 2011. To determine if your rifle is affected, please reference the serial number list located at www.smith-wesson.com/venturerecall or by calling Smith & Wesson directly at
1-800-713-0356. If your serial number does not fall within the list of affected serial numbers, your rifle is not part of this recall.

REMEDY/ACTION TO BE TAKEN: STOP USING YOUR RIFLE. Any unintended discharge of a firearm has the potential to cause injury or death, and we ask that you stop using your rifle until we have an opportunity to inspect the sear to make certain that there is no condition which will allow the rifle to fire without the trigger being pulled. To facilitate the inspection and, if necessary, repair of your rifle, please contact Smith & Wesson's customer service department to receive instructions and a prepaid return label for the return of your rifle to Smith & Wesson. When you return your rifle to Smith & Wesson, be sure to attach the completed information card received from Smith & Wesson, so that your rifle can be returned to you as quickly and efficiently as possible.

VERIFICATION OF CORRECTIVE ACTION: When your rifle is returned, you should note a punch dot on the trigger assembly. See the photograph below. This punch dot is confirmation that your sear has been inspected and the hazard has not been found or has been corrected. When your rifle sear is returned, you should also note a red checkmark on the label on the outside of your box. See the photograph above. This checkmark is further confirmation that your sear has been inspected and the hazard has not been found or has been corrected.

I read a persons' post re" reloading manuals and updates the other day....I still cannot believe that anyone in todays time
and place believes that products remain the same every year and
that they can use tech. manuals some over 20yrs old because the
powder is still called by the same brand name...

I remember us loading 7mm Rem Mags so hot that the primers were
bulging at the edges and thought that might be OK, but a little
hot..but that was in the 60's...I guess that's why some many folks have to purchase new rifles, ect annually...Dirt

Stainless Howa 1500 Recall

I just read a notice about Howa Machinery, LTD recalling certain of their Model 1500 Stainless Steel Rifles that were manufactured between Nov. 2009 and Sept. 2011. You need to stop using your Howa Stainless until you can check its serial number at www.regcen.com/m1500ss or call: 1-888-770-7031. They don't go into any details about the nature of the problem, but the fact that they want you to stop using it until you check and then, if necessary, have it repaired, indicates it's something rather serious. There, of course, will be no charge for the repairs that might be needed.

Safety Recall Notice Issued for Certain Walther PK380 Pistols

During an internal quality review, Carl Walther GmbH has identified a condition that may exist in certain PK380 pistols which may permit a round to be discharged if the trigger is pulled, despite engagement of the manual safety. Walther has found that engagement of the manual safety may not prevent firing of a chambered round when the trigger is pulled.

This recall applies to Walther PK380, .380 ACP pistols manufactured by Carl Walther GmbH from May through September 2012, which have a serial number range from PK101201 to PK112155.

STOP USING YOUR PISTOL AND RETURN IT TO WALTHERAMERICA AT ONCE.

Any unintended discharge of a firearm has the potential to cause injury, and we ask that you stop using your pistol until we have an opportunity to inspect it to make certain that there is no condition which will allow the pistol to discharge with the safety engaged.

To facilitate the inspection and repair, if necessary, of your pistol, please contact Waltheramerica's customer service department at 1-800-713-0356 to receive instructions and a call tag for the return of your pistol to Waltheramerica.

Additional information will be posted on Waltheramerica.com. If you have any questions about this recall, please contact Waltheramerica at 1-800-713-0356.

Winchester Issues Recall for 5.56 Ammo
2-11-2013

Amid a national ammo shortage this is probably the last thing you want to hear. Winchester has issued a recall for some of their 5.56mm centerfire rifle ammo.

The company stated in the recall notice that after an extensive evaluation they found that a single lot of Winchester 5.56mm M855 62 Grain Pene (penetrator) ammunition may contain incorrect propellant, an issue that if used may cause damage to the firearm or render it inoperable, or may cause injury to the shooter or bystanders.

The 5.56mm M855 is an economical brand that features a steel core and a green penetrating tip. Online it typically costs $10.

The company asks that you do not use the 5.56 ammo from boxes marked with the symbol number "ZGQ3308″ and the lot number "WCC10M106-004″. Both identifying numbers are stamped on outside of the 900-round shipping container, and on the outside of the 30-round box.

Winchester asks that if you do have a box of defective ammo to immediately discontinue using it and contact the company to exchange it at no cost to the consumer. You can contact Winchester at 866-423-5224 and they'll arrange for free UPS pick-up. As soon as the company receives the package, a replacement box will be shipped out.

The company can also be reached via snail mail. If you have a questions relating to this issue write to Winchester at 600 Powder Mill Road, East Alton, IL 62024 with "Attn: 5.56mm M855 Recall" at the top, or visit the company's website at www.winchester.com.
