Is this part of the O'bama plan on gun control?

I have seen this thread every time I log in to THF....finally I said "what could possibly be keeping this thread alive", so I read the whole thing. Man I would be going crazy if I couldn't access my safe. To actually suggest that you have stuffed the inside sooooo full that you have put pressure on the locking mechanize just shows they admit they build a piece if garbage for a product! I think this thread needs to get linked on a bunch if other forums and we should all start sending the links to Winchester! I am linking to this thread on several other sites I visit.... And gonna urge folks to flood Winchester with emails! Anyone know if any radio personalities are selling them? I know GB pushes liberty, if anyone pushed Winchester maybe they would think twice by reading this thread! They left you high and dry and are now saying you are really on your own for trying to gain access!!!!! That's pretty low! NO WINCHESTER SAFES!!!

Agreed, how in the hell are the contents on the inside blocking the door from opening? Isn't the door sealed? Winchester's claim is beyond belief.

Lets go back to the beginning. The battery was changed, and the keypad stopped working immediately after the battery was changed. I think it's obvious to everyone that the keypad crapped out.

I seriously was considering a Winchester safe, but won't even look at them anymore.

Seriously, you oughta be able to drill a hole in the top, fill it with sand, and still be able to open the damn thing.

Going to be picking up a safe from Academy here shortly. Was considering a Winchester...but totally leaning toward the Liberty now.

After reading the entire thread i'd like to clear a few things up.
I am a thirty year safe and vault tech. I do warranty work for a few safe co. Amsec,Cannon,Liberty,Browning,Redhead,Granite,Fort Knox and a few more i can't remember. A pro safe tech doesn't use a $100 worth of drill bits on a Winchester gun safe and as a rule gets it open repairs and is gone in 1 to 2 hours depending on why its locked up. I have opened hundreds of safes because there is crap in front of the shelf line( the front edge of the shelves) anything preventing the bolts from full extension or putting pressure on them can and prob will cause you issues getting your safe open. Whether you have a E-lock or Mechanical. And oh yeah you can't just pull the wires out and pop it open with a 9v batt.
And most of the time most gun safes worth anything don't have a key bypass.

What part of the state are you located in. I haven't heard back from the Locksmith. He said he would call me yesterday or today so I'll be calling him tomorrow. Hope he didn't drill two holes in it, beat on the lock and relocker for 4 1/2 hours and then shag butt not to return!

A pro safe tech doesn't use a $100 worth of drill bits on a Winchester gun safe- I realize that now that I seen him drill into it in 2 minutes with a pilot bit then a larger bit.

All true. A safe is just a steel box with a lock, and unless it has ball bearing hard plate or some other exotic barrier material that safe should already be open, fired relocker or not. I would like to see pics of the open door when this is finally done, I love doing safe work and this will be a good case study.

Welcome!! I'm guessing you didn't actually read this thread. Manufactor was contacted repeatedly and provided zero constructive help on the matter.

Hey Coot, I've been following this thread from the beginning but my memory's not that great anymore and I'm not going to re-read the whole thing again. Did you happen to do ANYTHING to the safe other than changing the battery before this happened, like installing a new door organizer, tightening up the inner panel screws or??? The reason I ask is because I recently bought a new safe that worked great for 10-12 times, then locked up on me. The lock would unlock but the bolts wouldn't retract. We finally got it open and took the panel off to find a couple of the panel retaining screws were a tad long and were binding the bolt carrier. FWIW, mine has a combination dial, not a digital pad.
After seeing how they're built, it's easy to see how they can bind up.

Just got the call, my safe is open! Locksmith said my relocker was fired. I asked him how and he said it appears that the nuts backed off just enough that it was locked (that's all Greek to me). I gave him $270 and a little tip and I'm tickled pink! He told me to weld up the holes and he will put on a dial lock for free. I'm very pleased with his service, he was an extremely nice guy and will recommend him to anyone in the Houston area "Spring Lock and Key". Thanks for all the support you guys have givin me. I can't get over the amount of concern all of you have showed over this. Thanks again.
