I think that IF Winchester had said - "Get a locksmith - If it's on us we'll help, but if it's on you it's yours" - they'd have saved themselves a lot of misery. IMO This sounds like a defect in materials & workmanship.

I just read this thread, fuuny the timing. My Cannon safe has me locked out. Called customer service, very poor! But after much azz chewing they sent me the parts 2nd day air. Mine has the electric key pad & lagard locking guts. Key pad is fine, it's the inards that crapped out. Worked on a friday ok but went to get a gun for a saturday night hog hunt and no go. I was beyond pizzed. Have already contacted a locksmith and he will drill it this week. I just got back from out of state and will call him tomorrow to set a date. If you need a good smith contact Fortress lock, safe & security out of Austin. Jon is very savvy on gun safes as he drills them every week. Hate to say it but Winchester was not high on the list of good ones although they all can have trouble.
Just for fun google Micheal Baine (gun show tv host) and Cannon safes. When I dropped his name to the Cannon cust. serv. rep. he got real polite in a hurry!!
I'll keep yall posted but think I will be changing to a dial while he's got it tore apart.
Safe was bought at Cabelas (for about $1000, approx. 2 1/2 yrs ago.) Get this, they sent me lessor quality replacment parts then what the safe came with. Surprise....

I'll say one thing about my Steelwater, the safe is a low-end box with really good fire protection, but their CS is outstanding. Mine locked me out due to someone installing screws that were too long and they finally dug into the bolt carrier enough to bind it up. Steelwater paid to have it opened, sent me a free shelf, four pistol pouches, a new handle and gear assembly, and refunded $100 to my card for the trouble. The local locksmith that opened it had nothing but praise for both the safe and the company despite being a distributor for AMSEC and Liberty. He flat out told me that it was a really good safe for the money and that he might look into buying one himself if he was ever in the market for one.

After following this thread I decided I didn't need any safe from Winchester if they have a attitude like this with their customers.I'm looking for a bigger safe and looked at theirs but now I can gladly scratch them all off.I will also pass the word about the customer service "after the sale" to all my friends as well. Thanks for posting and your troubles started because a nut backed off and shorted the touchpad ...

Coot, Brother I feel your pain. The lock smith made it out today and got things done. Even with Cannon giving him the wrong drill location!! Glad he went with his gut/experiance in drilling safes. He got it open & installed a kick azz dial lock. NO MORE KEY PADS !! I went with a top notch dial for a replacment. Cost was well worth it! I can't say enough about the outstanding service of Jon @ Fortress lock, safe & security. A real pro when you need one! 512-800-3030 24, 7.! Also, he his is a fellow sportsman, serious bass addict, deer & pig slayer ! He does go to Houston if needed & does all the work for a large banking firm. Give him a shout if in need. I highly recomend him.
Money well spent! A true straight shooter and pro at his craft. Plus a all around good guy!
Just passin on info for those that may need it.
PM me if ya want more info/insight on him.

Diver, Coot & Others There has to be some way to send this thread to the top folks @ Winchester, Cannon & others. Could use some tech savvy help here. Let them know we won't stand spending our hard earned money to buy some brand name safe that is full of china made knock off parts.
Maybe ya'll need to talk with your own locksmith and see for yourself.
I promise you, NOT being able to get to YOUR own guns, due to a safe (as in trusted safe place to store your valued items ) that suddenly just decided to crap out, will raise your blood pressure.... It only gets worse from there.......! Really could use the help
of those more tech savvy than I to help spread the word.
I've already contacted Cabelas and "filed" a customer complaint. At least they listen, take note & respond to their customers.
Course, would be hard to survive using cheap Chinese knock-0ff crap for customer service reps, kinda like the fools i ran into @ cannon. Did I mention they gave the wrong drill location to the lock smith !! They are such a joke, if your question is not on the script they read from, your screwed.!
I truely did not know that the whole world revolves around having a new Duracell battery installed !!!
Pay attention folks, this could be you. For the gifted tech guys, help us all out and get this to the top of the line, please.
ok, stepping off soap box(for now) to go saddle up JW and get ready to check cows before it gets too hot.
All while i mumble something about cheap azz chinese knock off POS crap............ !!!

Yay! Glad you finally have access again. We've been there. Liberty safe. We called and they didn't want to help.
Couple more calls and some serious beechin, they agreed to send out a locksmith.
The mechanical dial was toast. Replaced it with an S & G.
No more problems.
I think you should print this thread off and send it to Winchester.

I'm never buying a Winchester safe due to this thread alone and their lack of customer support.
