I think this will be a good topic to talk about in the off season.
I shoot nap spitfires and shoot them very well but get tired of the blades braking constantly. I do purchase the replacement blades but that remains expensive and a hassle. I'm thinking about trying to go back to fixed blades but I have always had a problem with them planing. I shoot gold tip arrows with blazer vanes and I think that might be the problem. I have heard you don't want to shoot blazers but rather you should shoot longer 4-5 inch vanes and also tune the broad heads more.
I would like to hear any opinions on how to shoot fixed blades without the planing.

I shoot them into a block target as well as a 3d deer. They don't break everytime but they do bend often and break sometimes too.

I've shot spitfires since 1995 and never had a blade break. It's not "THE" broad head but I've watched about 50% of the animals I've shot since '95 fall.

When/how are the blades breaking?
Might be the arrow removal.

If you are getting planing with fixed heads you have a tuning issue. Try some Montec G5 heads. Less profile means less chance of planing. Go to your local pro shop and they can help you with it if you have never done a paper tune before.

exactly, tune the bow and almost ever time broad head planing issues are corrected unless it involves an arrow spine issue

My brother and I have shot Spitfires since the late 90s, I have never seen one break before. Did you original blades break? or just the replacements?

Both. They bend/ break constantly.
I'm not shooting them any differently than field tips , etc..
Maybe I'm just shooting them more often than others are during practice situations.
Do you all only shoot the mechanical heads or field tips too?
Once my bow is hitting the target I sight my bow in with broad heads and only shoot broad heads.

My mechincals and fixed print the same as my feild tips to 50yard. 60yards my fixed are about 3" low.

I only shot my broad heads to make sure my bow is in tune still

The "Shuttle T Locks" are the best hands down in my book..They fly truer then any broad head I have shot and Ive tried just about all them. The exit wound is as big as a Rage or bigger.

Blazers are the best vein on the market. Do yourself and the game you shoot at a favor and take your bow in to the proshop and get it tuned. Trust me, you will be much happier with it's performance when you do.

I can't address the blades breaking. I only shoot Montecs

I have been using Spitfire 100 gr. since 1999 and have never had a blade break. I have killed two deer with the same broadhead many times. I just clean the heads and sharpen the blades. I really don't understand why you are having problems with them. I don't practice with them because they fly exactly like the field tips.

Hate to even ask, but do you have a different set of broadheads that your practice only with and a different set that you only hunt with?

I practice with field tips and shoot a few broadheads each session to make sure everything is still in line.

As was said above, better to get the bow tuned correctly, even if you only shoot mechanical.

They fly close in my opinion but are not identical. Few inches off when I shoot them into a target past 30 yards.
I plan to have my bow possibly tuned.
