Just bought 4 black anodized 80 percenters with jig for 105.00. I hate you... That's a hell of a deal. I would like to get a couple 80%'s myself. ar-10's 15s and 1911's Then I won't tell you about the AR10 and 1911 lowers I bough at the same time.....but MAY have some for sale later.

I have a drill press that I used to make holsters with, but don't know about the table. Ill look at YouTube to see how hard it looks. OMG! Frankenguns just went up to a whole new level! If you know what you are doing, chose good parts and a barrel from a reputable company, your "Frankengun" can and will be better than 95 percent of the off the shelf ARs. Unfortunately, most folks don't....

Alright, so explain this 80% AR lower to me. Someone told me you can get an 80% lower, and mill it out yourself to make it in whatever you want- full auto, semi-auto. that seamed fishy to me. What's the deal with an 80% lower and the regulations on them?

What's the deal with an 80% lower and the regulations on them? The ATF has a designation that anything beyond 80% finished is legally a receiver and is a controlled part. There is no law against building a gun for personal use, regardless as to being a scratch build or starting with a partially finished receiver. All NFA rules still apply so you can't build a machine gun out of it without being a SOT, and you can't build a SBR without a Form 1.

Alright, so explain this 80% AR lower to me. Someone told me you can get an 80% lower, and mill it out yourself to make it in whatever you want- full auto, semi-auto. that seamed fishy to me. What's the deal with an 80% lower and the regulations on them? Basically the ATF has specific rules that dictate what, explicitly, a gun is. More precisely, they say when a hunk of metal officially becomes a firearm. 80% lowers means that per ATF rules, the metal is still a hunk a metal and isn't regarded as a gun. Currently, there are no laws that say an individual can't make their own firearm. The laws only state that they can't be distributed unless they have a serial number and identifying marks. With 80% lowers you can get the "hunk of metal" do slightly more work to it so that it accepts an LPK and trigger system, and then you have a fully functional lower. The ATF says that the lower is the only part that is considered a "firearm". Same for 1911. So basically, if you get a 80% lower you can do a little more work to it and make it an AR, more specifically, since you made it, you don't have to register it and the government won't even know they exist. Now, as far as the fully auto thing.... that is still illegal. But the interweb consensus says that what the feds don't know, won't hurt them. That's probably what they were talking about.

did not know this existed. Is it legit? did not know this existed. Is it legit? I haven't received my lowers yet but seems legit to me. Basically there's going to be a bit of a wait as they have to wait until they are fully funded then acquire machines/materials and then start banging out lowers. Here you go...http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_12/611082_Rockethub_80__Lower_Receiver_Projects___Update_05_23_2013__.html

This is why it seems fishy to me. I wouldn't want to be pulled over and searched with an AR with no serial numbers. I have heard of guys doing this. I just do not know anythign about it.

Well you could always have one put on if it really bothers you but nobody should be checking for serial #'s anyway. Unless I am committing a crime I can't see any reason why the police would be running the serial # on one of my rifles.
