I just killed a baby rattler this evening here at work. One of the guys saw it under the AC unit.

You did right though...kill em 1st identify the brand of snake later

Ignorance causes fear, most so called outdoorsmen/women should learn to ID snakes instead of using the backwards @$$ bubba response of "the only good snake is a dead snake" Sounds like Fooshman killed a "good" one. Sounds like more people here need to learn a lot more about snakes and other critters they will encounter in the wild instead of shoot first then see what it is. Is that what you do on ducks and deer or anything else you hunt?????

Kind of hard to identify it in the dark. All I knew at the time is I was bit and I needed the snake to id it. And I sure as hell ain't gunna get close enough to it with it alive not knowing what it was, especially with my dog and my gf nearby. I'll do the same thing if it ever happens again.

I'm not saying you didn't do what most people would in that situation. It's a good idea if your bit, to take the snake to the doc. for reference. There is another thread going on the photo forum about snakes also and the responses are humorous, just like some on here. It's O.K. to be scared of snakes, I respect the poisonous ones and leave the others alone. I just don't think they should have a "kill em all" tag attached to them. I have killed several rattlers and cottonmouths because of dangerous situations to me, kids, or dogs. I used to sell live rattlers and kept several for pets, no more these days. Snakes do serve a purpose in nature, the more time you spend in the outdoors observing and learning, the more respect you will gain for them, among other things that people fear in the outdoors because of their inexperience. Glad you weren't bit by a poisonous snake(rattler), cause you could have been in for years of pain, disfigurement, and various other complications.

In just the past year from last years dove season to present, I have either stepped on, over or with in striking distance at least 10/12 times. I was actually hit by a Copperhead in the shin while lookin for a dove last year. Lucky for me, I had my snake boots on. I will not hunt without them.

This past weekend up here in the Panhandle area there were lots of rattle snakes and one bull snake spotted in two days. Taking a double take reaching down and picking up your dove in a foot deep of cover was an under statement.

Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, in our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air, over the livestock, over all the earth, and over all the creatures that move along the ground."
