Sounds about right if you want to be "average". I'm sure they average in kids, first time hunters,middle of the road shooters, and experienced hunters to come up with an average per bird ratio.

Day 1: 16 shells for 9 birds
Day 2: 4 shells for 2 birds
Day 3: 8 shells for 4 birds

That is about as good as I have ever shot. I'm mediocre at best. My step dad's father was a world class shot - best skeet average in the world eight years in a row back in the 60's. My old man was one heck of a shot, too. If he had three flying his way, at least two were going down. Growing up around people like that is very humbling.

Like others have said, I know the limitations of my equipment and ability. I try not to take shots over 35 yards and 90% are probably in the 20-30 yard range. Every now and then I'll take a single shot at 35+ yards just to see if I can adjust my lead correctly, etc., but I rarely connect.

I shot 2 shells over 2 full boxes. Some of my shots were horrible but toward the end I was getting better.

I'll add in a couple of "stats"...

1. We've shot more birds in the first 4 days than we did all last season.
2. We've damn near shot as many shells in the first 4 days as we did all last season.

Ya'll are all better shooters than me , but we all got a limit on our sunflower field !

3 boxes for a limit it sucks, ratio wise, but it was a blast.

12 birds, 20 shells.
my first limit of anything, besides beer, and speeding.

Shot 15 with 27 shells. Made some good shots and missed some gimmees.

I carried a case into the field, and came back with 7 boxes & 5 birds... I think I'll be doing some skeet shooting before next season.

Unfortunately, I didn't make it out to the fields this past. week. Been scouting for some ducks and trying to save money. Starting this am., I'll put a more concentrated effort on 'em. One for 5 right now. New scope is killing me but saving $$$$

Monday 2 1/2 boxes = 10 birds

Tues 2 1/2 boxes = 14 birds

Friday 2 boxes = 8 birds

I know it isn't very good, but then again I didn't really care...just had a good time and shot at every bird I thought I could hit.

So far this year 68 shots fired 36 dove dead. I dont know what is happening as Im usaully about a 4 shots to 1 kill ratio guy. But im definately not complaining

Shots/Bird is a function of skill but I think it's only part of the equation. The particular place you hunt will also be a major factor as some places you'll get much better shots than at others.

2 boxes = 10 doves. I had a blast.

I went and hunted close to lake Whitney.
Them burds was purty smart they waz flyin a mile high goin 90003746mph. I shot a total of about 10 shells and got 3 birds. It was kinds like usin anti -aircraft. I had to switch to a improved modified before i got any birds.

I agree its a function of where you hunt. First afternoon my 10 year old on his first hunt (single shot 20ga) missed his first two birds then killed three in a row that were floating into decoys in a dead tree next to a tank. The next morning, I gave my 13 year old a mojo and he killed his first 6 birds with 7 shots when they were turning and tracking into the decoy at 15 mph. Later that morning, when it got lighter and they were coming near the decoy but still going fast and started doing dipsy doodling etc, he shot another box and a half to get 4 more birds. My 10 year old shot two boxes + some slop to get 6 fast flying birds that same morning

That is some good shooting. You sound like my friend. While we all are shooting 12 ga. he is shooting a single shot .410 and still gets his 15 before anyone else with just over a box of shells. He did this the next day as well.

37 shots for 15 birds.

Openning day 14 birds 27 shells and some of those were iffy shots when it got slow.

Last saturday 3 birds 4 shots
