Hey guys, I have a locksmith coming over at 3:30 today so hopefully I will be reunited with my guns this afternoon. I got it sitting in the garage and its ready to be drilled, cut, or blowed up! I've been putting it off for quite sometime, but today's the day.

boy I will never get a keypad.....or a winchester. They have treated you like you're from a 3rd world country. CAnt wait to see how you get it open and what the problem was.
I think we could all take up a collection to help out with getting it open. Let us know what happens here

Well, 4 1/2 hours and 2 holes in the safe later, it's still not open. He run out of time and will have to come back next week. He said my relocker has come apart and will not allow the safe lock to open. He drilled a hole in the top and stuck a scope in to see what the problem was. He said he works on a lot of Winchester safes and mine being older was better built than the newer ones. I tell you that would be a very frustrating job.

Is the problem electronical?
I went with a mechanical just because I don't want to have fumble with loose wires, dead battery etc.

Wow, you're a patient man. I would pay the locksmith for his time, sawzall the safe, get the guns out, take pictures, and send them to Winchester with a nasty letter.

Sounds like the electronic key pad isn't the problem, the locking guts just broke.

I'm a safecracker/locksmith by trade, been doing it 13 years. If your 'smith said it's a relocker, then it's not electrical, unless the lock case came loose and fired the internal one. Most safes have two relockers in case of a attempted break in, one in the lock and a secondary one on the boltwork of the safe door.
If the keypad has the letters SG on it, there's your problem. They suck, hard. Get him to install an AMSEC ESL10XL or a Lagard Basic keypad on it and you shouldn't have any more trouble. Of the 2 the AMSEC is the best, if it pukes you can call em and there is an override code to open the safe, only AMSEC has it. I've had one of em go bad in my career, only because the fellers ex got pissed knocked it off the door.
Let me know if I can help.

Is the safe still under warranty? Funny, the website sells you on piece of mind, but in reality you only have warranty if the, "if" conditions are met. Still think Winchester should step up on this issue. http://winchestersafes.com/"Free Replacement Guarantee If your Winchester Safe is ever damaged in a fire or burglary attack, we will repair or replace the safe Free of Charge. The Free Replacement Guarantee service includes: - Free replacement safe - Free locksmith service to open the safe - Free curbside delivery of the replacement safe Your Winchester Safe truly gives you the peace of mind that you want when storing your valuables. For complete details see Warranty.nny what I found on the website: http://winchestersafes.com/"

Erase this thread and set your house on fire. Then you'll get it open for free and a replacement safe!

Man, I just read most of this thread and am now worried about my Liberty safe with the SG electronic keypad.
I bought it 9-9-2001 (yes, 2 days before the attacks) and I just recently replaced the battery for only the second time.
I'v never had any problems with it (knock on wood).

Just posted to Winchester Customer Service! "Have a safe, but thought about another in the future. Found this on THF Forum. Don't pretend to know all the details but I'm guessing a Winchester is out of the picture now. http://www.texashuntingforum.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/4301339/1You guys are getting a lot of bad PR here!"

I wish that all the details were there, then maybe we wouldn't be out of the picture for your safe selection. I hope that you find what you are looking for. Take care, Jamie"

WOW!!!! My translation of their response is: "To bad about your safe, and good luck in finding one in the future."
Well, Winchester, if you truly are following this thread, i'm currently shopping for a gun safe. With your lack of customer service, and care, the choice is very easy. I defenitly won't be buying a Winchester safe. Thank you for making this very clear.

Hi Terry, Thanks for contacting us. We have spoken to you a number of times, as you indicated, and in our professional opinion, something is binding your bolt up. There are times when a safe is over filled and items are leaning up against your panel that covers the boltwork on the inside of your door. In keeping up with your blog postings it appears that you have done some things that may have damaged the safe further, and fired or destroyed the relocker, as the locksmith told you. I didn't post those details on the blog, nor did I share them with the other gentleman that wrote to us from the blog. It would not be appropriate for me to release details of our calls with you to him, or anyone else. If you would like to have the locksmith that is working on your safe call us again, please do. We will be happy to make sure that he has the correct drillpoints and any other useful information for him that we can. Sincerely, Well I guess if I was the reason for the relocker firing its because I couldn't get in the POS anyways!
