How about a flintlock black powder rifle? You can make your own roundballs, make your own black powder from hardware store items, and flints are easy to come by.

Love my 260. Terminal performance is much better on white tails than my 270.
Used the Berger VLD this year, very accurate and puts a helluva hole Dang I've never hit a deer with my 270 that didn't end up dead'r a doornail!
