Hog lights from http://varmintlights.com/ = $85. Mine was $24On a quick note, I did comparison on hog lights and found them to be similar. Chinese items are generally the same crap, different names on them. I deduced that much so I took a chance and came out on top. Plus I didn’t want to buy the dang light for $160 I got all my parts in today. Parts you’ll need (those links will break as time goes on so you can always search for them if the links break). There will be some soldering involved. Don't use a razor or box cutter of any kind- ya don't want to slip and spill blood. I just threw this together real quick. Took like less than half an hour to do the gutt'n and re-install. —CREE 3W Green Light LED Bulb Ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/251132712430?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1438.l2649 —Ultrafire C8 Q5 Amazon http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00547SCXG/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00I basically started off with the ultrafire C8 Q5 and took the light led module apart. It’s the same guts as regular LED lights just matched to the ultrafire C8 Q5 differently. Ultrafire Wf 502b was a direct drop in. Hey if I posted in the wrong area, I'm sorry. Just thought I'd share some tips on saving some money.

Great job Chiro. I could be mistaken, but I am pretty sure that the XLR 250 IS the C8, just with a different name printed on it. With enough time, you could find the suppliers and original names of all the top hunting flashlights. Thanks to our govt regulations, it just costs way too much to make them here.

Thanks. You are correct, sir! The XLR 250 is the same in all aspects. Uses the same battery. Their battery is again, re-badged, to their company name. I don't mind it being made overseas- alot of quality items come from overseas w/ a decreased cost for us consomers. Not all things are quality I admit. Here is the comparison of mine and theirs

Been running a C8 for over a year now with no troubles. Went through alibaba and bought the green one in a kit with all the mounts and crap you'd pay 150 for. I got two lights and spent $60. Yes, they're all very similar, and yes, they'll laser engrave them with your logo.
Truth is all the kill lights are OEM'd outta China except for one guy here on the board who builds his own. Most are C8 variants but others can be had with even more power. Not sure anything more than a C8 is really necessary but...

The guy that makes them here, is he using cree led modules? I think that's the only one out there right now for green led unless I was just searching for cree and excluded other companies.
C8 is all you need IMHO. The guy I went hog hunting with, he had the same one as mine and he paid $200 for it. Thank goodness I did my due diligence prior to purchasing one of those expensive lights.
BTW I was always afraid of shopping on alibaba- how do you tell if they are reliable sellers? Any key things I should look out for?

I just got an HS802 from lightmalls.com in China for less than $30.
Pretty fast shipping (a bit over a week) and the light looks and performs as well as my XLR 250. They carry accessories (leds mounts etc) at equally reasonable prices.

Nice website- got to bookmark it for sure! Amazon has the same one you're referring to for the same amount but I didn't want to wait for the shipping so I opted to buy it in parts which worked in the end!

I'm not sure what he's using, I just know he makes his own lights.
Alibaba is easy but I only have experience with one supplier so can't speak to reliability of others. I used Malian Light Co. and would again (probably soon).
I do like the idea of building your own-it sounds like fun. Before I left HP I hacked a bunch of old laptop batteries apart and have enough batteries to power 10 C8 flashlights for at least a week at a time. I might have gone just a wee bit overboard though..lol.

On the bottom, it looks like you have a brass ring inside od the silver housing. Is that true? In this pic this is what I came up with. On the left is the brass housing (which is the green led) where I tried to get it inside the silver housing (original from flashlight). The screws on the brass housing wouldnt quite fit inside the silver housing. I tried to file it down and the lens broke off the green led board. From your pic up top to me thats what it looks like you did. Sorry for being so dumb to this, but thanks for your input.

Okay I see where you went.
1) The brass that you see in the silver (aluminum) housing, is OEM. It serves as a lip so that when you push the board inside, it does not go pass that bass lip.
2) The ebay brass housing that you tried to stick inside the aluminum housing- this is where you went wrong b/c you don't need the brass housing anymore
3) Silver housing: You removed the old led diode and board... All you need is another led diode and board from the ebay doner. That is all that you need from the doner. Put the doner parts into the aluminum housing. That is all.
4) I will create a youtube video if you want. I'll try to explain everything on it plus the break down of the components so it all fits.
No, don't beat yourself up. You are not dumb so don't underestimate yourself. You are just ignorant (not knowing) same way I was ignorant in how to piece the parts together. Cheers!
EDIT: I think you painted yourself into a corner. You can send me everything and I'll piece it together for you. Make sure you put it all together the way it was so I have something to go by.
Also the Ultrafire C8 that you purchased is different from mine. But same concept.

I did hours upon hours of research to 'match' the big sellers (Hawglights, Destroyer, etc.) of hunting lights. I found the exact match to ALL of them for pennies on the dollar. It's been awhile now but if you put forth the effort you can save a ton of money. I used Alibaba & ebay.

I came across this post and I was just wondering if I understand you correctly. Did you swap out the green LED out of an Ultrafire 501b into your C8? Why not just keep the 501b? do you get more light out of it by using the C8? I also would like an update on how it works for hunting. I have a friend with an ND3 light and he hates it, says it spooks the hogs every time. How has yours worked?

Mine has worked great. I purchased the LED separate to install into the flashlight.

So the Q5 looks to be the equivalent of the XLR-100, and the C8 looks to be the XLR 250 - does that sound right?
Wreck em!

Yes I assume as such. The Q5 and the Q8 shines bright and far. I'm happy with both and works great when varminting at night when you have no hogs
