It would really make another great photo to get take that buggy and try to re-enact that photo in that spot. Be interested to see how things have changed.

If you are on Facebook look for a page called Traces of Texas. He posts all sorts of old pictures from Texas. I am sure he would love to see this outstanding image.

ROBERTS, DORA NUNN (1863–1953). Dora Nunn Roberts, philanthropist, was born on April 23, 1863, in Randolph County, Alabama, the daughter of Elijah Hope and Elizabeth (Joyner) Nunn. The family moved in succession to Hope, Arkansas, Bowie, Texas, and Coleman, Texas. In Coleman Dora married Andrew Griffin, and they moved to southeastern Howard County in 1884; they settled south of Signal Mountain on four sections of land. Two daughters were born of their marriage. The family survived the great drought of 1886–87 by burning prickly pear, selling milk, butter, and eggs, and raising vegetables irrigated with water pumped by a windmill. Griffin was killed in a roundup accident, and his wife married a neighboring rancher, John Roberts, on October 21, 1896; Roberts himself was killed in 1909, and their son died in 1912. Dora Roberts continued to run and expand the ranch and ultimately owned twenty-nine sections. A succession of oil strikes beginning in 1927 produced large royalty checks that she used for investments and charities. She bought real estate, helped finance construction of the Big Spring Petroleum Building, and served as president and chairman of the board of the Big Spring First National Bank. She is best remembered for her many philanthropic donations, including large gifts to McMurry College, Texas Wesleyan University, and Southwestern University. She made significant contributions to the Methodist Hospital of Houston and the Health Rehabilitation Center and Vocational and Technical Training facilities in Big Spring, as well as to area churches. She was a member of the Forsan Methodist Church. Mrs. Roberts died on December 27, 1953, at the age of ninety.

'Ol Dora heirs get some mighty hefty royalty checks from all over. I've seen her name in title chains from Lubbock to Crockett co, and from ward to Mitchell co. Good for them. Must have been a smart lady.

It would really make another great photo to get take that buggy and try to re-enact that photo in that spot. Be interested to see how things have changed. I'm going to try and find that spot and take a pic today. That's easy... go to Squaw Teat Peak or is that Teet?

That old mountain has seen allot of erosion since that first pic was taken. It and the hills around it drop off big chunks of limestone quite often.

That old mountain has seen allot of erosion since that first pic was taken. It and the hills around it drop off big chunks of limestone quite often. You can tell there is a big difference in the peak

I've seen her name in title chains from Lubbock to Crockett co, and from ward to Mitchell co. Thats just whats local and in TX, the estate has mineral holdings in NM, OK and LA. The Warren gas plant is right in the middle of her place south of Midland.

That's wild, was reading your post and showed the pic to a buddy, he looks up and points to the hill saying it looks like that hill. I picked up the binos and sure enough that's it.

It would really make another great photo to get take that buggy and try to re-enact that photo in that spot. Be interested to see how things have changed. I'm going to try and find that spot and take a pic today. That's easy... go to Squaw Teat Peak or is that Teet? It's called Signal Peak, there old indian camps all around the base. Hummm ok well there's one just like it near Sheffield (I guess off I 10) and the sign says Squaw Teat... unless the state got pollitically correct over the past 30 years

Very cool pic. My wife and I discussed this very topic on our recent trip to Ruidoso. We talked about how different things would have been back then, making that trip on horseback or by buggy/stage. Compared to today's luxury as we flew out I-10 at 80+ mph, in the relative comfort of my truck, with heat/air, stereo, etc. We made the trip in 9 hours. This trip would have taken them a month or more.

He posts all sorts of old pictures from Texas. I am sure he would love to see this outstanding image. Thats where this picture came from.

I'm on that ranch every day theres a good chance we've met if you still go out there. You wouldn't by chance be the arrowhead hunter? I'll find a spot on a remote part of the ranch and just when I think it's getting good I'll find a little pile of flint, she beat me to it.
