I am embarrassed what I saw at bannister. Not only on the side of the roads but deep in the woods. Who drinks beer while hunting.

There are a fair amount of people who never had there daddy around to kick there arse from littering

Alcohol and firearms. Are you for real. Perfect example of why hunters and gun owners have a bad name

Also reinforces why landowners don't allow hunters on there property if asked politely knocking on doors.

I'm with the op on litter. I'm not opposed to responsible drinking after a days hunt (I don't do it), there is still no excuse for littering. Nothing ticks me off more when I'm in the field than some lazy dumb $#!t,s garbage. Litterers and child molesters are the same in my book! I know that's harsh... but it's pathetic that someone can be so lazy as to not pick up after themselves.

The empty corn sacks scattered along the roads in East Texas are always a clear sign that it's deer season.

I have a hard time believing that hunters can be responsible when drinking while hunting but irresponsible about carrying their trash out

Sad thing is this is not only happening at the WMA in your area. I was as Choke Canyon State Park about 7 yrs ago now after I had not been in 15+ years. I was shocked at how deterioted the facilities were. No upkeep and no park personel in sight. Buildings built in the 80's were in horrible shape. I can only imagine what they look like today and how trashy it is there now with budget cuts and even less personel. Sad thing is with all the people living in South Texas due to Eagle Ford the trash is showing up in the country just a few miles out of the towns. Side roads, backroads, etc have trash bags, old furniture, etc thrown out on a regular basis. Every crossroads intersection will be a trash dump in the country. Really sad to see.

If they are littering then they are not being responsible period. Responsible drinking in my book means a few after the hunt and the guns are unloaded and put away and picking up your garbage plus others garbage. If your drinking with a loaded firearm.... No that's extremely irresponsible and foolish.

If you take one or two beers to the stand your only going to drink one or two beers. It's not like were dragging a full cooler to the stand. If your concerned about drinking in the stand what about drinking in camp. The beer is there and the weapons are as well. Guess my camp is just different than yours.

My point is this. I go to my deer stand with 1-2 beers which will be consumed in a 4-5 hour period. Keep in mind I always keep my guns unloaded when I travel to and from the stand. I drink the beer in the stand. I don’t feel 1-2 beers will impair my judgment in a 4-5 hour period. Get back to camp, a few hours everyone is drinking (drunk), standing around the fire (oh wait that’s dangerous because were drunk) and there are probably 20 firearms at camp. Guns are usually in our vehicles at my camp, not all put away. There is such a thing as responsible drinking.

Oh, and 99% of the time my gun sits in the corner of my stand never fired. So how is that foolish?

Alcohol in any amount impairs your judgement whether you think it does or not!

We also drink while we skin our deer. Surprised we haven't cut our arms off. Oh and we drive up the hill, and climb on the roof to use the phone after a few beers too. We should proabbly stop doing that. All of a sudden the deer lease doesn't sound fun anymore.
