It has been made into such.

Cheating yourself is up to yourself.

How is the animal cheated?

Yep. Just another symptom of the "gotta have it big and have it now" trend in society as a whole-forgetting that the journey in earning something is where the essence is.

I choose not to accept that. I choose to hunt according to my own ideals. I want nobody telling me how or why I should hunt, so I extend the same courtesy to others.

I agree.

But who are we to stop them? A lot of people have issues with tower blinds and feeders and rifles and many other methods employed by the typical low fence hunting Texan. Are you going to let them tell you how to hunt?

So I'm starting to feel that some folks like the work, some like the reward, and some just don't know how to play so they stack the deck.....

We've been sharing woodcock hunting stories down on the upland bird forum.

There's a guy with no dog who went out today looking for some. No dog. Driving 4 hours each way. Going to public national forest land. He has probably walked 10 miles today. He may see some. He may not even see one. If he shoots one he will be ecstatic-and rightfully so as he will have earned that bird in every sense of the word.

Another guy may choose a different route and hunt pen-raised birds seeded throughout a couple acre patch. He may kill a limit in 10 minutes. Post a pic on here grinning from ear to ear.

But who has had the more rewarding experience? Who has hunted and who has simply killed something? Ask yourself and honestly answer.

A little different perspective but insert deer for woodcock and we see it on here every day....

I love to work on our ranch or a friends, I love the reward just as much and as far as stacking the deck im all in favor as doing what ever I can to better my odds of getting what I am seeking for the year down. Either plots feeders stands or whatever it takes, HF dosent matter once again.

Funny you say that! Arent some of these people the ones that pay $6-10k to hunt Youkon Moose? What about Stone and Dall sheep in the $20-40k range? With that said, is it hunting when one hires a guide to kill one of these animals? The guide does all the scouting and the hunter follows along to pull the trigger. One of the easiest hunts I've been on was Barron Ground Caribou in Canada. There aren't any fences there. As a matter of fact, there's nothing there but water and tundra.

We all know the answer, but the bigger question is....who cares?

Do you hunt for yourself or people on a forum? What did the stocker take from the stalker? They both hunted their way and enjoyed it. Good for them both.

I care. Because the hunting tradition is important to me. And many others. I don't like hunting even associated with shooting penned-up calcium deposits.

You ask "Who cares?" like it's stupid to care about something. I guess to many it is...

If it's important to you, then hunt that way!

Why should everyone do things your way?

If hunting HF is so easy, why is this deer still alive? I saw him once after shooting light in November. We have been rifle hunting since October till now. He showed back up last week. The ranch is only 670 acres

I think I'm going to do a remake of the JG Wentworth commercials. Insert a High fence and put some low fencers on the other side screaming those are my deer and i want them now!

There's a lot of tracks outside that fence. Doesn't look like the low fencers are missing much.

Looks like the ones in that pen have beat a path trying to roam like the real deer outside stir
