Theres always the one guy that claims he's getting 20+ If you're referring to me, I'll be glad to provide you with a witness! My boss drove the first half of the trip out and was sitting in the passenger seat on the way back! We discussed the mileage when I let him out at Hudson Oaks. FWIW
Update:
Finally got out on the Interstate. No trailer. Weatherford to Baird 75-80mph = 17.2-18mpg; 71-75mph = 18.6-19 mpg. No cruise!
Reset at Clyde & used cruise control with traction control off from Clyde to Wal-Mart in Hudson Oaks (East of Weatherford) 68 - 72mph and got 20.3mpg. (Best I saw was the flat stretch from Clyde to Eastland 23.5mpg @ 70mph)
This is a 3.5 EcoBoost FX4 with Max Tow & 3:73 gears using 87 octane gas! Truck pulled good on the up hills in cruise and included my overrides to pass slower traffic. ...and BTW the tow capacity on the Tundra Double Cab 4X4 with towing package is shown as only 9700 lbs(from 2013 Toyota) vrs. 11300 lbs on the Eco (from Ford). I was looking for mileage AND tow capacity without going diesel! I think I got both with the Ford. If I pay attention to how I drive, I get better mileage. I'm about to roll over 32,700miles. So far no issues! FWIW I'm not brand loyal, I look to see what's going to do what I want when I want it - no big deal to me on what "brand" it is. But...I will be like Sgt Friday - Just the facts! If it breaks, I'll be the first one to say well I had a problem.

My comment referring to "theirs always a guy claiming he gets 20+" was not meant to be derogatory, just that's theres always those few trucks that get better mileage than other identical trucks. As far as the tow ratings.....they don't mean squat, youd have to pull the identical trailer with the two trucks in question to see which one towes better. Don't get me wrong...I was the first one to throw the bullchit flag on Toyotas 2014 Tundra because they didn't improve the fuel mileage, but as far as its towing ability.......it wont be surpassed in anything 1/2 ton but maybe the 6.3L GM, the 5.7L is a very strong motor and no one in the world is gonna convince me that a V6 with a supercharger is gonna out tow it in raw grunt power. I honestly thought that the Ecos were getting better fuel mileage and that's the only reason I piped in here. Theres another thread going on the Texas Fishing Forum very similar to this one, and then I stumbled on the one here.

Alaska cub you drink too much of the oriental pickup company koolaid.
Look at the torque from your Toyota and an ecoboost and get back with us. Look at the torque in lower RPMs as well.

Turbos can do big things!
Also the turbo alows that little 6 cylinder motor to make more torque than the 5.7 does at lower rpm and maintain that same torqu throughout a larger portion of the power curve. That makes it very effective.
Motor - HP * Torque Toyota 5.7 - 381 * 401 Dodge 5.7 - 390 * 407 Chevy 6.2 - 403 * 417 Ford 6.2 - 411 * 434 Ecoboost - 365 * 420
When it comes to towin id rather have the 20 extra lb.ft of torque the eco has than the extra 16 hp of the yota. Which one is better is probably a difference of opinion and argument waiting to happen. I think the fuel economy thing will favor the eco.

Look at the torque from your Toyota and an ecoboost and get back with us. Look at the torque in lower RPMs as well. I have been a Toyota guy for a looooong time, though I have owned a couple Dodge diesels. I like the F-150's.......as a matter of fact I had one in 2010 for a whole 4 months before I traded it in and lost my [censored] on it. Came out of a 2007 Tundra into a 2010 F-150 and going to the dealership constantly while they tried to figure out what was wrong with my new truck was not my cup of tea. Dumped it after 4 months and bought another Tundra, it hasn't been back to the dealership since the day I bought it, rolling on 50,000 miles. I know that the Tundras are thirsty but my F-150 wasn't exactly generous on fuel either but beating the [censored] out of a truck and just changing oil has worked quite well for me when owning Yotas, not so much when I ventured to the other trucks. I am really disappointed that Toyota cant or wont come up with something new (maybe direct injection) that can improve the fuel mileage a little only because fuel prices are obviously now going to forever remain high. That's the only bitch I can think of regarding the Tundra, other than that they are as solid a truck as a guy can ask for. Just so you don't think I am full of it....this is the Ford I dumped.

Darn these threads on this engine are confusing. I have a 2010 FX4 with the 5.4 and was thinking about trading in for the new ecoboost. With my older tires that were wore pretty good, I was getting 20mpg easy on hte highway....as long I as kept it under 70mph. With a tail wind, I get 21 and small head wind about 19mpg. A month ago, I put new tires on it and I lost about 1 mpg. If I put the tonneau cover back on, I just about regain that 1 mpg lost. In town gas mileage really varies, so does towing. I will say that my F150 tows a lot better than my last Silverado 1500 with the 5.3. The 5.3 got better mileage on the highway due to it shutting down 4 cylinders at times. I averaged 21mpg on it going 68mph.
Now, both of those trucks really sucked the gas when towing. I was lucky to get 13mpg towing about 2000lbs.
So, is the Ecoboost any better on fuel mileage??? I am not conviced yet.

Well everyone has their own opinion, and I agree that depending on options and drivers no 2 will pull or perform exactly the same. However, the first time there's a serious accident involving a towed trailer you can bet some accident investigator worth his salt will be looking at tow weight ratings!
In addition, insurance may not pay claims if the truck is pulling more weight than rated from the factory and you can kiss your warranty good-by if the truck is found to be overloaded.
I think you meant 6.2 GM and I looked at those too when I was in the market! 6.2 in a 4 door with 3:73 gears is only rated for 10400. (FWIW I also looked at Toyota and Dodge 1/2 tons too but they just didn't have what I was looking for)
If I'm preaching to the choir I apologize, but in the fine print on most trailer ratings (ford too) they advise those weights include fuel and one person. When one adds the tongue weight in along with passengers & gear one may have to subtract from the max trailer weight to maintain GVWR. At 11300 I've got plenty of room with the GVWR and the Max Trailer rating with my 9000lb trailer.
Also, If you are in a non-turbo vehicle you lose about 3% of rated hp per 1000 ft of altitude and since I pull in the mountains a lot I didn't want to suffer that loss because it's directly related to tow capacity. I still think my 17-18 in town and 20+ and 11300 tow cap is a good thing. Of course my mileage will drop when pulling the travel trailer, but I'm not ever gonna be overloaded.
BTW I had the privilege of meeting an out of state license & weight guy several years ago. I passed!

I will be looking for a new truck in the next couple years and will look hard at all the options out there. Unless gas prices return to normalcy or Toyota does some modifications to the motor options in the Tundras I will not buy another.

Was it that sensor or something else? I'm STILL waiting on a verdict. I'll tell you one thing though, the 2013 5.0 f150, even though it's only 2wd, is terrible on gas compared to my ecoboost. What really stinks is, valentines day was my 1 year anniversary with my 2012 fx4 ecoboost supercrew, and I didn't even get to see or even drive it. Kinda breaks my heart, she's my baby.

I've actually gotten to talk to my service guy ONCE since I took my truck into Sewell Ford for service, and he was kinda like "uh, well, we can't find anything wrong with it, but we're going to start looking at your tires now." (they are under zurich warranty. pretty cool. I fill them full of mesquite thorns and they replace them for free). I also have an issue with my fuel door. Whatever snaps it back and retains it in place is broken. The door has a mind of its own. I went all out with my warranty package, so it better get fixed as well. I don't know, I love my truck, just want it back and fixed. It gets excellent gas mileage. I actually get a hand-calculated 19.xxx on the highway, and it's a longbed, 3.73's, max tow, luxury package, etc. I have, however, begun blowing up "ford trucks"'s facebook page wanting an explanation as to why my truck is misfiring. Misfiring under 14-15lbs of boost on a gas motor... sounds like a disaster waiting to happen.

Next time keep your foot in it so the code with stay...it'll quit flashing and stay on. A new PCM flash might fix it but odds are its the sensor.
I hope they get you fixed soon...that sux! I'm still waiting on my sensor but I haven't had the light or miss since they cleared the code.

Csddarden & Judd I'm keeping up with these posts so if you get an answer let me know. So far no problems here but I wear a belt & suspenders too so I don't get caught with my pants down. I have a sort of "just in case" mentality. If it does happen I know what to look for!

HnF...will do. I only had it happen one time without a trailer attached and since duck season is over I'm pretty much done towing until the next duck season. So I really don't expect it to surface until then. I really like the truck. I wish Ford would've raised the truck up and not put these low profile ghey looking worthless perelli's on it but I'll fix that in time or have a different one so no big deal.

I dont have the 20's and perelli scorpions, but I have the 18's with goodyear wrangler sra's, and they're probably just as worthless. My plan is/was that, when/if they replace my tires again this time around, I'm going to goto discount or firestone or somewhere and have my new sra's pro-rated on a new set of A/T's of some sort. Really leaning towards the BFG T/A KO's. I also have a 2.5" lift/level sittin in my closet that I haven't gotten around to installing. Kinda worried about my warranty if I install it.

well, I just called my dealer and they said they no longer will install levelling kits. wtf good question. odd to me is that the dealer is the cheapest price in town for this 2" level. they told me adding to the truck does not void warranty. modifying the truck can. this is not considered a modification. check out http://www.f150forum.comthere are literally 1000s of guys there with this type of setup. and people asking for this kind of info daily. very active forum with huge amounts of helpful info.
