I have hunted public land my entire life. I have scouted deer months before season, hiked up and down canyon walls for miles, and hunted my butt off for many deerless seasons. I took my first public land mule deer buck two years ago. That being said, this weekend I get the chance to go to a high fenced ranch to cull some unwanted deer. Am i going to miss this opportunity to put some good meat in the freezer? No sir. Am I going to have to change my pants when a 200+ point deer walks by me? Probably. You can not blame people for capitalizing on what they have the means to do, if you want to raise deer for trophy hunters do it. Next year, I'll be back to beating the bush on my public spot . And love every minute of it.

What about the guy who wants a 240-250" buck? Send this guy to me, no problems at all. He wants it I got it for him but when he makes a bad shot hes not gona be happy. Why would they make a bad shot? Not saying they will, I have had it happen before and alot of them dont understand why they have to pay for a deer they're not taking home and why it goes of what the guide had him scored at but thats just part of it. Blood or for sure hit and your paying for it no questions.

only negative talk i've ever recieved about HF is from people who didn't really know all the much about hunting in texas, period.
There really are two types of HF hunting....Native born and bred stock that is behind a high fence and breeder pen released deer onto a ranch. I am 100% for the former, can't stand the latter.
Really, that's an arrogant statement, even for you and 100% bs.
Talent is a gift, character is a decision.

I hunt LF out of state and also in TX. I also run, operate, and guide on a HF place (hence the sig). Doesn't matter to me what kind of fence if any runs the property lines of the ranch I hunt. I don't believe in canned hunts. I think strictly LF hunters have either one of two problems with HF...either one they think it's a petting zoo or have been on a hunt similar to Thompson Temples ram hunts..OR TWO they can't afford or have never had an opportunity to step foot on a good and well managed HF place. I bet if I posted up a Freebie HF hunt to any hardcore LF only hunter they would come out of the woodwork to jump on the opportunity.

I should not get into this but what the hell. I have 2 places. One is H.F. and the other L.F. Actually the deer on the L.F. are tamer than the H.F.

when a high fence is put up along a two lane highway, more death loss on the highway is noticed until the survivors learn whats going on. I have had more than one land owner tell me they have a high fence to try to keep the people out.

Blood or for sure hit and your paying for it no questions. so, i call you and say i want to shoot a 200" deer, you say you have one with my name on it. (i have seen some posts from you asking if anyone has a 160 available because you have a guy that wants a 160, so it seems this is pretty common.) i know that i am about to fork over some money (kill or no kill) and really expect that you have your ducks in a row and have a pretty good idea where this buck is and when i will have my best chance to shoot him. right? as a business owner/guide, in order to keep your customers happy you know you have to be able to give them a very good chance if not guarantee they will have a chance to shoot this buck. right? so i show up on friday to a good dinner, saturday morning/afternoon i go sit in a stand that you have directed me to and shoot the buck that has my name on it. hunting? more like proving your gun is sighted in. and i know "to each his own" and all that, if u want to "order up" a 160 on tuesday and go shoot him on saturday, so be it, i just dont see what level of satisfaction one could get from it. i know that not all HF places are like this, most probably arent, but it is just not good for our sport that scenarios like this are out there. this is all just my opinion and while i know we are all hunters and it is all hunting, some methods can still give us a black eye and arent necessarily good for the future of our sport.
If I send my neighbors a text and ask them to give me feedback on my lawn and plant rye into a giant dong pattern, I'm probably going to get some less than positive feedback. Same goes here.

I hear this same cliche so many times it makes my stomach turn. "High fence hunts give us a black eye." So many people say that, but I've never heard a reasonable explanation as to why. So tell me, how does a high fenced hunt, or a put and take hunt, give hunters a black eye?

From what I spend on my LF lease I could afford a HF hunt every couple of years and likely kill a 170" plus deer but its just not for me. To each their own and I dont have a problem with it.

So does a LF hunter call it hunting when he can pattern a buck during the summer via trail cams and kill him on opening day? Or is that just what a master hunter can do?
HF hunting sucks!
If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

well look at the amount of "heated debates" on this site alone, in the state that all the HF's started. u dont think hunters fighting with hunters gives all of us a black eye?
and i could care less about what "northerners" say or think about me, but look at the view of texas hunters from those out of the state, they think we are a joke. my BIL lives in missouri and although it is in good fun, constantly gives me grief about using feeders.
i know HF's and put and take places are in every state, but everyone thinks of texas first when these topics come up.
just like most up there think everyone in texas rides a horse and wears cowboy boots, they like to think we all stare at feeders behind high fences. i had a 30min conversatuon with a lady my wife works with on new years eve about feeding deer all year and waiting for them to show up and killing them. she didnt want to hear anything about food plots or standing corn, she didnt agree with feeding dear, and that was the end of the conversation. that is what we deal with from anti's who like to play on emotions when degrading our sport, they talk about deer in pens and "trapped" behind high fences.
how many people have you ever heard talking down to someone for hunting unfenced public land? its because there is a difference.
sure, most of these arguments stem from ignorance, but most people dont like to logically think through issues, they like to go straight off emotion.

I'm not for put & take or outside genetics being introduced inside a fence....just going to throw that out there... I agree with that. Dont like any kind of messing with genetics or transporting deer.
