[quote=lharrell79]Garand. That is all. Funny, but I have one of those as well. Great weapon. Now if you would, please show me a Garand with a 20 round mag and a competition trigger for 3 gun matches that weighs 8 pounds and handles 65K psi 30-06 rounds and can switch calibers with the change of an upper. And do it for under $2000 brand new. [quote] Same thing I thought. And will the Garand shoot as tight as this AR? Doubt it.

The Garand can't do all that crap, but it will defenitly be more dependable, and cost a lot less.

Noreen is saying it should deliver around the end of April. (But then they told me end of January, March, April and now end of April) Criminy I'm DYING for this sucker to get here so I can write it up, video review it and go shoot the ever loving daylights out of it.

Hopefully those sightmark optics hold up to the 30-06. Looks sweet, side charging and all .

This may or may not be relevant, but it's interesting so I'll toss it out here...
A while back my buddy decided he was interested in an AR-10, but wanted to explore options other than the .308 Winchester. Of course I suggested that anything based on the .308 would work and built a strong case for the .260 and he went with it. Then he decided he wanted to build another in the most powerful cartridge based on the .308 and I suggested the .358 Winchester. I'm really a fan of cartridges based on the .30-06 and was thinking the .358 would be similar to the .35 Whelen---a real performer.
What I found was that there are no barrels available in .358 and I came away with the impression that the .358 is not suitable in the AR-10 platform. It's been a while and I don't recall exactly what I read that led me to that conclusion. So he ended up going with .338 Federal which I see as entirely acceptable and desirable.
So...I'd be interested in knowing whether this rifle would be viable if chambered in .35 Whelen, and if not, why not?

I have been considering a Browning BAR safari in 25-06, but those are fairly pricey as well. I will be interested to see how this performs. The website lists them as 1799$.

I agree. But why the barrels can't be found in .358 is a puzzler, if you ask me. Surely I'm not the only one that thinks an AR-10 in .358 Winchester would be a real thumper!

Interesting for sure. I don't know how in heck its 8 pounds though. My AR10T is 8.5 stock with a 16 inch barrel, and this thing has to have longer dimensions on the lower and upper, and the barrel is 6 inches longer than mine.

Did a little looking around.
My previous searches were restricted to the availability of barrels in .358 Winchester, and for the life of me can't recall where I got the impression it was an impractical proposition. A little looking around revealed that it has been successfully done and with little or no special trouble. One thing that did come to light is a relative lack of .358 Winchester ammo, but for a handloader this should pose no extraordinary challenge, just good clean fun.

I was just sitting here thinking about running 30-06 through an AR... Dollar, dollar, dollar, dollar, dollar, dollar, dollar. Dollar, dollar, dollar, dollar, dollar, dollar, dollar. Dollar, dollar, dollar, dollar, dollar, dollar. Seems like a fella could burn through a $20 in no time.

okstatefan : actually it's closer to 59 cents, 59 cents, 59 cents, 59 cents, 59 cents .... cheaper than some 223 ammo.
And I'm working on the 20 cent reload recipe .... so logistics was actually a consideration on it.

I forgot if it was Krieger, Hart, Harris or maybe Shilen (mea culpa I cannot recall ...) I did a LOT of research on this and the viability of 30-06 derivatives.

What is the twist rate of tge barrel? And as far as ammo goes. 50¢ a shot is more than feasible with 175 surplus bullets. You could even get it down to <45¢ a round with bulk 150gr soft points
