Why do they call it a "buy back"? They should just call it a "buy", after all you didn't purchase the guns from the police.

I always wondered that exact thing too. It's like they are inferring that the firearms everyone owns really don't belong to the individual citizens that were bought and paid for, instead that all firearms actually belong to and originated with the government.

Intentionally deceptive labeling, kinda like the phrase "assault weapon". Hear it repeated enough for long enough and everyone accepts it's intended meaning.

Glad they are giving us enough time to organize ourselves to add to our collections.

These "buy backs" have been going on for years all over the country. I personally know of two instances where an elderly widow has taken her late husband's gun collection in because she knew nothing about the guns or what to do with them. Unfortunately I found out after the fact on both accounts! One of the ladies took in some amazing firearms. Old colts, Parker Shotguns, Sako Rifles, Winchester's.... I was sick.

Hey I just thought of something... I wonder if there are any checks to see if these are stolen guns and if they could be returned to the rightful owners??? I'd hate to have a stolen gun of mine sold and destroyed for $50 to $200 bucks!

ALSO wouldn't there be an issue involving buying stolen goods ???

Im more curious, since these buy backs are churches which equate to private individuals, who gets prosecuted for possession, and/or trafficing in stolen property when a stolen weapon is purchased????

Last i heard, not even the preacher/priest is above the law.... And i have a real issue with any DA that would allow a preacher to go free, and a gang member to go to prison.... Think about it for a bit....

YEP ! It was interesting, probably 40 private buyers across the street for the "official" buy back. I saw about 15 guns (3 sks) sell on our side of the street. People would bring a gun and it was sold auction "style"... "We have an SKS"... "$200!"... "$250"...."3"..."$4oo !"....... "anybody else? $450 ?.... sir are you good with $400?"... "SURE!"... "That man right there is your buyer"

And they would step to the side and make a private sale. Most guns went for what I would say, was fair market value... I saw no 'real' bargans.

There were PLENTY of police there and it took a LONG time for people to get through the line, so I'm sure they were checking ser #'s.... our side of the street was the one that would be questionable...

Went, same experience as above. One guy brought over a ranch hand in 45 LC, that was pretty neat. Only people actually going over to the buy-back were old people and yuppies.
