We have a high fence ranch with lots of nice deer on it. They seem to not have patterns like deer on the outside of our ranch. The ranch is 600 acres. I would like to hear everyone's opinion on how to get these deer to move. Thanks

Turn some dogs loose amongst them.

If you shoot a young deer because a neighbor will shoot it, you are that neighbor.

I would like to hear everyone's opinion on how to get these deer to move. Thanks You could start by removing their food source and make them get up off their lazy butts look for it.

get about 30 folks together and line them up along one of the fences, set up hunters along any creeks, highline/pipeline (any long openings including fence rd buffers) or foodplots and get the folks along the fence to start walking. I;ve seen this work when folks weren't real picky about what was shot and they just wanted the numbers gone from a place. :poppycorn:

You could go on the down wind side of the place and light a brush fire. If anything would get them moving that should..

Walk through the woods I can cover 600 acres in a couple hours. Avg human walking speed is 3.1mph. This is measured on a good, smooth, flat surface (something raw land in "the woods" is not). Also, this is measured over a distance of 1 mile - the longer the route, the lower the average distance covered becomes. 600acres is approximately 1 mile x 1 mile square - meaning the perimeter is 4 miles. So even if there is a smooth path along the perimeter, it would take close to 2 hours to walk. .... and you and only walked the PERIMETER (nothing on the inside). To "cover the woods", you would need to walk a pattern of ~200 yard parallel paths. Since 1 mile is 1760 yards, this means you would need to walk (1760/200 +1) = 9 mile long paths back and forth in order to "cover the woods". There is a chance you could do it if given an entire DAY ... if it was flat ... if there were good paths through the woods ....... in the pattern you need to walk Otherwise, I'm calling BS.

If you don't care if they get loose then lower the fence. If you do, stop givin em corn, protein, and another feed.

A 600 acre pen and you can't get deer to move? Funny. Only on a Texas hunting forum.

I once went on a doe/cull hunt on a high fence section (640 acres) in the hill country. The owner told us how many deer were on the place and what he wanted shot. I sat for two days and never laid eyes on a single deer.
I think highly pressured deer on small, high fenced properties will shut down as soon as they detect activity in their "house". Personally, I wouldn't high fence anything less than about 3000 acres.
