I own both and very simular. If it is just for white tail deer then 25-06 if you are wanting to use it for bigger game then 270. the 25-06 has less kick and is a long flat shooter. either way they are both really good guns good luck on your decesion

25-06, then trade one of the 30-06s for a .270!

Then you got everything covered and you get to shoot both and figure out which one you like best...

What rifles do you have now?

ie. if you already have a .223, .243, and .257 Roberts, but nothing bigger, the .270 would be the better choice. If, otoh, you have a 30-.06, .308, .338, and .475 H&H, then the .25-.06 is the better choice.

To answer your question Chris, I currently have:

.223, .243, 7x57, (2) 30/06

I may trade/sell one of the 30/06 for a scope once I have the new rifle.

With that being said a .308 is a much better cal to throw in that bunch. IMHO

I have owned a Winchester model 70 for the past 30 yrs. I just got a Savage Axis 25-06 for Christmas. Looking forward to spending lots of time with the new rifle. Its more than enough gun for the hill country deer I'm after.

Whichever one you find a rifle that you like in...if I already had the 30'06 I would lean toward to 25'06

.280 Remington!

Actually, if I had the money, I'd have one each of all the '06s: .24-06, .25-06, 6.5-06, .270, .280, .30-06, 8mm-06, .338-06, and 35 Whelen. Well, I take that back, I think the .375-06 and 40 Whelen are underpowered for the game they were designed for and wouldn't own one of either.

25-06 for sure. You have your 30-06 if you decide to hunt bigger game.

I have experience with both. The .270 is a find caliber, but I've had a major gun crush on the .25-06 for years. Sweet shooting!

I'd go for the 25-06, personally because I already have a .270 and have been looking into getting a 25-06 for some time. But you won't go wrong with whatever gun you choose.

I got a .257 Wby mag. Dont handload, real low recoil, flat and packs a whop. Mark V action. Need to want a 26" barrel.

Check it out, may be the .270/25-06 answer. Was for me

Does anyone here comapare ballistic specs on guns or just speak? Seems most of these debates are about the same rifles, over and over again. But when ballistics are compared, with factory ammo, these guns are so close it's not even funny. Truth be told, there is no reason in North America to own anything larger than a .243. What is need is learning to shoot.

This is just my opinion and does not and will not stop me from owning multiple calibers of guns.

Me too on the model 70 .270... 29 years..I really like it because its a versatile enough caliber to use for big game and can be loaded down if need be. I shoot the same 130 hand loads that I have been using for 10 years..when I get down to 1 I will have more made.

With this i think 270 should replace 1 of the 06s if trading but if not going to get rid of the 06s then the 25-06.

I like them both, have one of each.

Given what you have already I'd get the .25-06. Very pleasant to shoot and maybe-just-maybe the perfect TX native game caliber. I think it'd be more fun and get carried more often.

I have a .270, but I want a .25-06 too. But if I could only have only have one, I would stay with the .270...
