A 600 acre pen and you can't get deer to move? Funny. Only on a Texas hunting forum. Hang around neighbor. You'll learn that these Texas deer penned in HFs have mystical powers- can jump the fences, avoid humans with their ghost-like powers, and leap tall buildings in a single bound. Much harder to hunt than those spoiled swamp donkeys y'all have over in Louisiana. ![smile smile](/forum/images/graemlins/default/smile.gif)
I learned long ago you can't reason someone out of something they don't reason themselves into.

I swear half you must sit around our camp fire after the hunt with the answers I read. Thanks a bunch! I do like the idea of taking the food source away and I do agree this small of a place they shut down when we show up. Good hunting to you all.

I've watched 57 get shot that way in thick pine plantations in one day. You get some that run and some that stay bedded hoping you'll walk by. Need a lot of hired help to drag them all out to a rd. ![popcorn popcorn](/forum/images/graemlins/default/popcorn.gif)

600 acres is a good size place. I don't know where you are located, but some strains of deer are a lot more nocturnal than others. Weather also plays a big factor on when deer will come out of their hiding places. High fence, low fence, or no fence, you can be sure they bed down somewhere and eat somewhere. They do move and they do have a pattern, you just haven't figured it out yet...

in all seriousness, we got to hunt a 650 acre high fence place one season for free. Friend of my uncles just needed to update some stands, cabin, mowing, etc so in excahnge we got to hunt the place like it was our onw. Beautiful place, very thick brush, canyon on one side. Excellent. Even saw picks of a couple of really nice bucks, 140 and 148 shot the year before. The guy wanted to think the herd to bring in some high powered genectics. Anyway, even with some food plots and feeders, the deer were hard to hunt. Very nocturnal and i think since it was so thick in some spots the deer had plenty of forage and didnt need to move. That place needed a lot of clearing and such and woudl have been great.

Hey don't take offense, most of us are just mad because you can afford 600 ac and a high fence to go around it!

We have a high fence ranch with lots of nice deer on it. They seem to not have patterns like deer on the outside of our ranch. The ranch is 600 acres. I would like to hear everyone's opinion on how to get these deer to move. Thanks Get separate 'food bowls' for each deer, and write their name on it. Also get separate 'water bowls' for each deer, and write their names on it. (Make sure they are all the same color). Now instruct the deer to only eat/drink out of their 'own' bowl. NOW here's the good part; after they get used to that, MOVE all the bowls to a different place on ranch EACH day, and put the 'food bowl' on opposite side of ranch from the 'water bowl'. That should wear their lazy azz's out, and should be pretty hilarious to watch! ![up up](/forum/images/graemlins/default/cup.gif) .
