wow, $10 bucks says your an accountant. No, finance, but you were close. I got into spreadsheets when they were first invented in the 80s. Here is a link to my model if any one wants to use it, you should be able to down load it, it is on google docs, you need excel.. https://docs.google.com/open?id=0B-_Yxdx4zpkybVh5WHZpMFV3R0k

That's pretty depressing Brazosboyt about the mallards. I started hunting ducks in about 2001 in Hamilton county(primarily) which is my home. We kill very few mallards, and when we do it's when the Leon River bottom floods. Besides that i have only figured out that Hamilton is not great duck country...although I hunt around and still go on a few pretty good hunts. We have killed about 80-90 ducks so far...mostly widgeon, pintail and teal. Do you think we will ever see significant mallards in centex again???

I have 10 on our first 3 duck hunts. 2 teal, 1 ringneck, 4 widgeon, 3 Gadwell. Below is a teal and a widgeon my son shot this morning on his 2nd hunt.

We need peanuts for mallards. Not much peanut farming around any more. We used to shoot lots of mallards around Giddings in the peanut fields. I also used to shoot mallards in Comanche County. Hardly any peanut farming in Comanched County any more.
Also doesn't help to be in the middle of a 3 year drought.

Water Turkey 2 you are very correct about the peanuts...not many peanuts in Comanche county any more, however, I know some of the land owners and very seldom do ducks get on what peanuts are still grown. Also even out around Rochester/Knox City they aren't getting too many ducks on there peanut fields like they did 10-15 yrs ago...granted they still get a few...but many of those are pintails. So I think Brazosboyt is right about the Mallard migration...they just don't make it down to Texas in any significant numbers like they use to...except maybe way up in the panhandle on a wet year.

You guys keep counting! I understand if you are hunting WMA or private and land owner ask you too. But if you are hunting public and doing it, and keeping logs, thats a big joke. I guess my log book is just the weather channel and scouting. Tells me all I need to know. I guess i missed the class that said keeping a log will change the flight of migrating birds.

I am new to duck hunting and participated in my fist hunt this past weekend around Uvalde Texas. Free hunt on public land resulted in a total of 10 birds, 4 Saturday (2 Gadwall + 2 Wigeon) & 6 Sunday (2 Gadwall + 2 Wigeon + 2 GW Teal). Saw alot of Ring-neck duck but did not shoot as I was told they are not really worth shooting. A super exciting and inexpensive hunting trip makes me realize I have been missing out for a long time.
