Love em! I've only ever bought two guns, a shotgun and a pistol. The shotgun was used, model 1100 20 gauge. I've had it for eleven years now and don't know how old it is. I don't use it much anymore but I'll never part with it.
The rest of my collection are guns I've been given and inherited. My favorite that I use every year is my grandpa's 30.06 that he bough in 1957 and has shot more deer with than I can count. I've been blessed to continue the tradition. Love, love, love that gun.
Another favorite of mine is a 12 gauge, not sure of the age, but I'm thinking a good 50 or so years. My grandpa gave it to me about 10 years ago. On one side it has the Remington branding, and on the other, Browning branding. Shot my first buck with that gun and still use it from time to time.
The last one I've yet to decide how much to use of it. It was my Moms who recently passed, but was able to witness me take my first hog with. It's more of keepsake than anything, but it's a beautiful gun and one of the most accurate rifles I've used.
All in all, I LOVE hunting with old guns. Really connects me to the people that matter in life and make hunting that much more enjoyable. Nothing compares to calling my grandpa and telling him hunting stories with his old guns, or remembering my mom by holding something she cherished. I'm not against new guns, in fact I do want buy a new semi-auto shotgun to use as my main.

My Dad bought a Mossberg model 183k in .410 back in the 1950s to hunt pheasant and rabbit in Iowa. He never thought himself much of a shot, but really disdained anyone who used a 12-gauge, as he thought that too much gun for any bird. For that matter, he thought quail too small to bother shooting. Mom feared guns due to a family tragedy, so when he married he stopped hunting. The gun was always in a closet, and I was allowed to shoot tin cans a couple times with it as a kid, but it mostly just sat around.
When I was 13 I received that gun for Christmas, along with some paper-hulled shells that might have been 15+ years old. I was allowed to go rabbit hunting with it when I turned 17 and we moved to the countryside, which started my hunting career. In the years since, I've also used it on squirrel, sharp-tailed grouse, quail, and even dove. Since it is a bolt action, it's rare to get a second shot at anything, but it is so fun to shoot I don't mind. I mostly use a Remington 870 in 12-gauge these days, but will never give up that old gun.
Deer quality is not measured by antler size

I miss my old 870 in 12 ga. I got it around 40 years ago. Some POS stole it. It was an awesome shotgun. It had a 30" full choke barrel. It was not the screw-a-choke stuff made nowadays. It shot the best patterns that I've ever seen.
You can only have too much ammo if you are on fire or swimming....

I have a 1950 Marlin 336SC 30-30 my grandfather gave me when I was 12 years old I'm 59 now so you know it's killed a lot of deer and hogs. I love to deer hunt with it since it's my first deer rifle and it had belonged to him. Still accurate and reliable.

Was at the Madison County Gun Club range this afternoon shooting my dad's nearly 60 year old Remington Gamemaster .270 pump. Its a sweet shooting old gun, but the slide mechanism jammed open when I was ejecting a live round. Looks like we will be heading to the gunsmith this week. I tried all the tricks I know to free the slide but nothing doing. The round is visible through the open breech but won't release from the slide and the pump action slide won't move at all.

I once took a deer with my old model 73 Winchester in 38-40 caliber. The ammo was about as old as the rifle. Now, both the rifle and the ammo are too expensive to use. No problem, I have plenty of guns.
My grandson likes to hunt with my pre 64 Winchester 30-30. It's taken more than a few deer.
Without a sense of urgency, nothing ever happens.

I love wrapping my hands around such rich history. There is something about holding on to that heavy old gun with wooden stocks. Beats the hell out of composite stuff nowadays, but thats another subject.
I have the gun that my Grandfather bought my Dad back when he was 9 years old, which would have been back around '66. Remington 742 Woodmaster semi-auto .243 and you couldnt trade me anything for that piece. My Dad hunted with it, I hunted and killed my first buck with it. My wife and oldest daughter have both hunted and killed deer with it. As a matter of fact it will get a workout next week when we take it back out into the field and finish up the season.
There is something to be said about holding on to these piecesof history and passing the stories down through the generations. My son who is 4 yrs old already knows that gun is his. He made the statement 2 days ago "are we gonna hunt with Paw Paw's gun when we go to the deer lease?" That right there almost brought tears to my eyes. He never got to meet his great grandpaw, but he will know the stories. That means so much to me......
People think hunting is just about killing stuff. But to many of us, its much much more. I am building memories with my children that may be passed down for hundreds of years to come. I have a special place in my heart for all the good memories I got so share with my Grandpaw and Dad in the fields. I want my children to have the same type of memories.

Although we own modern guns, my boys and I really prefer milsurps to hunt with. What was good enough for the Brits, Russians and Germans is good enough for us.

I hunt Coyotes with an old Remington Model 722 chambered in .222 Rem. It's an old action, but it is VERY smooth and reliable action and acurate. It also has a 26 inch barrel.

Here I am back in about 1980 with my great grandfather's 1873 32-20. Recently found out that it had been used by my great grandfather's brother to fight Pancho Villa. My uncle didn't fare too well, and g-grandad rode out to west Texas to pick up his effects. Would love to have that old rifle. Pic of me and my first deer in Dec of '78. I still hunt with this late '40's model 94. Belonged to my grandmother. Here's my son with his first deer. He used my grandfathers 1920's era Model 8 in 35 Remington. I swap between this and the model 94 above...depending on the mood I'm in. Never had a need to buy a modern rifle.

1961 Savage 99F in 300 Savage. Perfect gun for still hunting, or just carrying when I’m walking some new hunting land.

I love 'em. Most of my guns are inherited and much older than me, many are from pre-serial number years. My favorites are two that I went in search of once I knew they existed. My great grand-dad was a RR detective and I found and bought both his M1877 Colt Thunderer and his 1878 Parker Bros. SxS 10guage. They had been numbered and marked by the RR and that's the only reason I was able to find them at all, in two separate collections. (They weren't cheap!) I've never shot the Parker (damascus bbl). I toyed with using the Thunderer a bit in CAS but it was banned when they went single-action-only, which I found ironic since it was the only authentic non-repro gun in my club. I also have a passion for Belgium A-5's, 50's era Winchesters, and for some reason I love those Remington-made "American Brownings" from WWII +/- era. My dove gun this past season was a 1947 Remington made "Browning" A-5 in 20g I picked up at auction in May.

I'll bet you could clap your shoulder blades together after touching off that big 10, that is after your vision cleared. That was made back when recoil pads were for wimps.
