No one can own an exotic even if branded or micro chipped, ect if it is on someone else's property. They are not controlled, can be shot at night, and are not livestock..even though more expensive. But if you shoot one on their place that's a different story, and a lot of laws are usually violated that way. It's the same with high dollar whitetails..on some of the South Texas ranches I cull shoot the neighbors bucks have come thru the fences and the owner on my side sold them as trophies when he saw them..hence they both put up a new tightlock 8 ft. high fence..The two Joshnson's agreed to disagree..Us poor boys just keep shooting does..DD

You can own an exotic even if it wanders on someone else's property. It follows normal estray law. Which it is handled the same as livestock.

Sure you can own exotics, but if the owner doesn't want them shot when they escape he must meet the identification requirements stated in the Agriculture code, Title 6. Subtitle B. Chapter 142. Sec. 142.0021.
Ive seen and shot a bunch of exotics, never seen a legal ownership marking on a single one of them.

most counties in texas do not have an elk season. also a lot of deer and exotics from high fenced ranches have a microchip or ear tatoo. i know of people that got in trouble with tatooed deer heads at the taxidermist. What countys in Texas do have an elk season None... Exactly Any more Even if it doesn't have an ear tag you can get in trouble for "Possession" if the owner has away to identitfy it as theirs..and will lose it as it goes back to owner..head cape, meat ect. Also make sure your land owner is cool with you shooting it. Also most lease agreements dont cover exotics....so without land owner permission you are open to liability to the land owner your hunting on.

Without LO permission you are correct. The proof of ownership requirements for exotic wildlife are clear.
Tx Agriculture code Title 6. Subtitle B. Chapter 142.
Sec. 142.0021. OWNERSHIP OF EXOTIC WILDLIFE AND FOWL. A person may claim to be the owner of exotic livestock or exotic fowl under this chapter only if the animal is tagged, branded, banded, or marked in another conspicuous manner that can be read or identified from a long distance and that identifies the animal as being the property of the claimant.

if you have to shoot one, just plant a knife on it and say it came at you and it was self defense

If they buy it and want to keep it...they should build a fence high enough to contain it. High fence hunts are not that much different than shooting cattle. The game has nowhere to escape to. What sport is there to that? I understand operating a facility to have hunts for high dollar animals...and people willing to pay big bucks to shoot a "trophy" or "rare" animal...but it all boils down to ethics and how you were raised I guess...

And you will be teaching a hunter education course??? You do realize many people taking it have never been exposed to hunting ever. I make sure and yell at the deer before I shoot so they can escape.
