I would think delivering for a client would be more stressful than delivering for a cameraman. Nice job putting the tv guys on primo birds though

Joey and his Dad put the smack down on the Mallards, and Yes some Girls got the beatdown! We had a blast. My dad had only gone on a couple of crappy hunts and had never shot a duck. Me living in Houston, we get opportunity for Mallards but not like up there. I know you couldn't tell because he was super tired that morning, but my dad had a blast. He wouldn't stop talking about it the rest of my trip up there. Favorite conversation of the morning when the first flight of mallards came in which was also the first group. We told my dad to get his first duck as a green head, be opportunistic and shoot it on the water. We will follow up. Birds hit the water with a drake literally 15 yards out and the convo goes like this: JJ: "shoot that drake pops" Dad: silence JJ: "shoot that drake pops" Dad: silence JJ: "pops, shoot that drake!" Dad: silence Me: "the one with the green head: BOOM! He told everyone later we're all acting like this was a conversation that took minutes, but it happened so quickly. I told him in duck hunting time, that was an eternity! hahahahahahahaha! Anyway, JJ runs a first class operation. He knows his stuff, which I think we've all figured out. He fit me in last minute and worked with me. Fun in the blind and courteous. Curb side service! lol Dude can call! Learned a few things, like honey buns can jack up the sound of a call! lol I had tried to get on a hunt with him last year, but I couldn't commit because of conflicts. Without me saying anything on this trip, he remembered that I was experienced and wanted a bang up mallard hunt. The birds were dropping down <20 yards in front of us. Easy pickings! I plan on making this a yearly trip around Christmas with my dad and whoever else. JJ, thanks for making this such a great trip and a great memory for me and my dad!

Thanks for the kind words Joey! Well, the last day of the San Antonio boys was a hunt in the pouring rain. We hunted the wetlands (due to the nice comfortable, DRY blind) They were able to pick off 9 birds over the course of the morning. Was a GREAT time and everything worked well! Then I went scouting and found that if you could figure out how to hunt a mud flat you could probably kill mallards! Today I had Larry and Jason come up for their annual duck hunt. WE had LOTS of birds come over! It was good to finally see the waves of birds that we have seen in the past! Here is a pair of Gadwalls that fell into the spread: Here is Larry, Jason and BO with todays take: I don't know about 70 degrees tomorrow, but we will see what it brings! J.J.

Well some days are better than others... Scouted this hole out and it was holding at least 30 mallards and some geese. We show up to hunt it and shoot 4 Gadwalls and 4 Spoonys?????? Had only one flight of 6 mallards fly over? Who knows! Next day had a group from Houston come up. We hunted Bonham and had the worst weather conditions. Fog, rain, and ZERO wind! Still managed to drop a few...(woulda all had limits if we had any wind!) Next day gave us the Wind we needed along with some sun! WE had a GREAT hunt!!! Also got a couple Geese! 5 of these birds are headed to the Taxidermist!! Check out this Sprig!!! (headed to the Taxi...His first Pintail also!!) Next day the wind screwed us and all the early birds landed on the far side of pond not allowing us shots...So we moved and they were able to drop some! The guy on the right this was his first duck hunt...I'd say he is hooked!! Today we had a GREAT time and the birds worked AWESOME! My Group took 17 (one shy of a 3 man limit) And Kelly's group finished strong with a 4 man limit, putting us at 41 birds for the day! Here is a pic of my group: Hittin' it everyday until the 27th...Appears some of the Grey ducks are moving back North...so we should have more pintails before too long. J.J.

Thanks! Some more hunts: Kelly's Group had some snow to deal with earlier this week: Shot a 4 man limit: (3 Guys drove down from Michigan to hunt with us) We hunted another spot and did fairly decent also, here they are in the blind: Better pic of the birds and Bo: They were also after a pig and one of the guys shot one on the second day! Then had some guys come in from New Orleans, Louisiana and things really slowed down...only managed a few this morning: Kelly's group had better luck and this "new" to duck hunting Kiddo had a blast!!!: I had Cody come in from Iowa, and Kelly set him up on a small wooded pond, to hunt and work his dog. He shot a mallard drake and 3 Gadwall drakes and then his gun jammed!! He had over a dozen fall in, within 10 yards and he had nothing to shoot at them! He was sick! Here is what he ended with: Today Cody and Jax hunted with me on another small pond and he ended up shooting 2 Mallard Drakes, 2 Gadwall drakes, and 2 Ringer drakes....Good stuff! (I fixed his gun last night!) 7 more days.... J.J.

Just got back to Iowa. Had a great trip to Texas, despite a couple mishaps with my gun and vehicle. JJ saved my weekend by putting me up on some good hunts, but I was more impressed with how JJ runs his outfit. He's the kind of guy that would give you the shirt off his back if need be, which he demonstrated a couple times over the course of the weekend. Also while all the other groups around were shooting 10-15 minutes early, he goes by the book and still gets the job done. He's got a lifelong customer here. Thanks again for everything JJ!
