any good land manager knows you need at least a yard fire break Us poor landowners need at least 2 yards so we can put a stand up on it. If I had a HF and it was 50 yards off the property, I would line the outside with stands and feeders and offer LF hunting Then I could be the greedy HF rancher and I could be "that" neighbor that shoots everyone else's deer. Wonder if the neighbor would then HF his place? If so, it would have to be 50 yards also and there wouldn't be any LF place...just a 100 yard plot. Now that would be shooting fish in a barrel

If you were my neighbor I'd probably give you a key to the gate.... I couldnt keep your east TX butt from hunting it anyways... Be easier on my fences to just let you in through the gate... Plus you got good taste in whisky and I know you will share

A few of my personal experiences include buying 11 acres and being HF'ed on 3 sides. North and west sides earlier this year. This will negatively affect deer movement. New neighbor has not had the juevos to come and talk to me.
Both my sons shot their first deer on this place. We never abused nor overkilled Planted foodplots and feed year round. In this case, my opinion on HF is not good.
On the other hand, I have another place that is bigger but I am surrounded by MANY hunters, guessing around 20 or so hunting 600 acres around me. They have a camp with a full size trailer house set up literally 1 foot off of a perimeter fence. I can see value in HF when considering this case.
I have had an opportunity to hunt HF twice and have killed a 203" and 176" deer on these hunts and honestly can say my heart rate did not increase a bit. When hunting LF I nearly stroke out when a doe comes out.
IMO the big winner on the HF issue is the folks who make and install the fence.

I would take useless in 5 minutes over useless in 1.5 hours. But for you, that means less time to hunt. Figured you preferred the long drive 5m from that base camp, not Houston

Otherwise I open a mobile home park next door with free rent for East Texas "survivalists". Trust me....they can't be caught.

Chico, according to some on here, you should count it as a blessing that someone else HF'ed your place SCORE!!!! Like hitting the lotto. Now all you need to do is go buy a $100k breeder buck and start your own herd.

A $10k reject would be just as good. Nope. It would just jump out. Now wait a minute...just had a thought If HF are there to keep deer out, but don't keep deer in, how does this scenario work? They HF Chico's deer out. Now he puts a buck in. Will the fence keep his deer out of their place or their deer out of his place? If it won't keep deer in, will his deer jump out or will their deer jump in? If they go either way, the fence did not serve its purpose...my guess is they would stay put
