When the first point of contention is that HF are "keeping in" you are arleady wrong! Then they should be required to have one-way swing gates installed every 100 ft. So if any are trapped they can get out.

wow 7 pages. Dang guys, HF's are the hot topic of the day.
Question. How much a foot does the typical HF run? Total cost to include labor? I forget what our was but i think it was $7 or so a foot. Holy crap.....it runs $14 a foot for the fence in my back yard. Wow, the price for a 1000 acres must be up there. LOL yeah you dont want to know how bad it hurt to write that check all at once but love it and wouldnt trade it if we did it again.

HFs suck! I do like the folks who shoot their bigger HF deer instead of trying to sell them off.

We high fenced our ranch because we had one Obama hunter then realized that if we are going to make serious investments then we needed insurance a-la HF

No more like he weasled his way into a will, was left 50 something acres that was smack dab in the middle of the surrounding ranches decided to put 10 feeders and blinds right on the fence and day hunted it out. Didn't put corn until september then corned like no tomorrow. even caught one of his day hunters shooting across.

The only way to hunt fair is to do a DIY hunt on the massive tracts of public land out West. I hunt the massive tracks of land out west. I have to walk in 3 miles to get to the forest by my house, no motorized access allowed. Most recent buck was 5 miles in and took 3 hours to get it out. You can go a week without seeing a deer or an elk that you can shoot, and that one week is usually all your allowed to hunt for the whole season, but I still love it. I also love coming to Texas to hunt, high fence and low fence. I find the knock against high fence hunting to be a little skewed. How many low fence hunters hunt over just a crop field(not a food plot) or watering hole? I believe, and could be wrong, but most LF places still have feeders to attract the deer. If you weren't allowed to have feeders, then I could see a legitimate gripe with HF's. But in all honestly, both HF and LF manage their deer populations through feeding and selective hunting. The only difference I can see is that on a LF there's a chance that the deer may wander off and never come back or be taken by someone else. For the most part both HF and LF hunt the same way.

I'm ok either way, but low fence allows a neighbor to harvest one of the trophy bucks and HF does not. When I hunt (LF) one of my neighbors can kill a buck that I want to shoot - this can greatly reduce my chances for a trophy buck.
JR I quit reading right here. The opening post and this one both made a little bile come up in my throat. Self-centeredness + rationalization = HF

I'll admit that I take the same mindset with me out West. Find the crop fields the deer are coming to and figure out a way to shoot them standing on public. Also watch for folks to rotate cattle over to pastures and bump back behind it on public and find the deer that just got pushed out

I'd like to shoot everything, if it's brown it's down, causing all the neighbors to put up high fences along my side. That would be like getting a free HF place.

Self centeredness. Try investing $100k's or millions into a ranch (not everyone has one passed down or family land) solely for your family to have a great place to hunt. You work your [censored] off to be able to afford the land, the feeders, blinds, wells, house/cabin, improve genetics, and at the end of the day hope for the best and hope they will stick around because u made it conducive. RIGHT that's stupid. Or have a shitty neighbor and the only way to prevent any deer with a set of antlers from getting getting blasted is throw up a fence? Ya think that one over

I'll also say that I would never put up a fence on a place. I'm that greedy person who would rather put that money toward more land or leasing bordering properties to keep others from hunting them even if I never plan to step foot on the place.

HFs suck! I do like the folks who shoot their bigger HF deer instead of trying to sell them off. Gotta reap some of the reward from all the hard work . However, other than my biggest buck, there have been 3-4 others that are bigger than my second biggest buck that either died to a hunters bullet or were found dead. . Gotta sell some hunts to try and help put feed in the feeders and seed in the ground. Have yet to see any profit.

I'm that greedy person who would rather put that money toward more land or leasing bordering properties to keep others from hunting them even if I never plan to step foot on the place. We tried to buy the adjoining 120 acres in the mid 90s. Realtor sat on the check and the owner sold it without realtor knowing. We took that money and fenced off the other 3 sides.
