dropped another deer (smallish 10pt) down in Llano cty. last week with my marlin 336 30-30. I just love that old rifle...

Never really understood why so many call these brush guns. None of these calibers will shoot through brush accurately. They are, however, deadly short to medium range calibers for the most part.

true no gun is good at going though brush , but short light fast handleing guns are good in tree stands and blinds in heavy brush were ranges of shot are short to med thus term brush gun. my guide gun much easier to use in blind than my 26 inche barrel browning 7 mag

Exactly, Love the trapper 94 and the Marlin Trapper 1894 for hunting in tight places where shots are short anyway. Also works great getting it out the truck window fast.

My first 2 deer were taken with a marlin 30as. My last one, this last Fri, was taken with my new to me Win 94 trapper in 44mag.
I have quickly fallen in love with this gun. If I'm walking a lot or in a stand with shorter distances I will use this. If I have a chance at farther shots I'll take the AR. But my trapper is always in the front seat.

JC Higgins (Marlin) 30-30 here. Great shooting little rifle. Tough as a boot.

Savage 99CD in 308, Marlin 1895 45-70, Marlin 336 30-30 & 35Rem. They all have blood on their hands!

.308 and 35Rem are probably my favorites...

To some it's blasphemy, but I can't imagine a handier walking around rifle.

With my eyes the truck gun got a scope, Sorry about the blood but a double lunged pig can make a mess when it bangflops from a 40 yard hard quartering away shot. Rifle is the Marlin 1894 357mag mentioned above

I seriously considered getting myself a .357 levergun and am still really thinking about one for my son here in a few years.

Don't wait. You will love the gun....even more so the trapper.
I just sealed the deal on an older 94 trapper in 30/30

Congrats on the 30-30 trapper Target1911.

KC I would snag it if you find a good used one. I had a couple others before getting this one. A 1894P which I hated why would Marlin port a barrel on a 357 to start with recoil is only about like a 223 anyway and the one I had shaved lead at the ports, not good. The next one was a Cowboy Action with octagon barrel, shot good and looked cool but was heavier. Lucked onto this one which is a limited production run and love the little gun

Thanks kmon.
I think I'm headed toward a safe full of saddle ring trappers. I'm looking for every caliber.....one at a time of course.
My 94 44mag per safety, and the doe taken Fri evening.

I love my Guide Gun in 45/70. Handles great, and the 45/70 with the leverevolution round is very menacing.

Every once in a while I use these:

Top - My favorite, Savage 99 in .300 Savage.
Bottom - One I got as a first deer rifle for my youngest son, Winchester Model 94 in .30-30.

Winchester 94 in 30-30 and 45 colt. Numerous Marlins in 30-30. Had Marlin 1894 in 450 Hornady but decided it was more gun than I needed and sold it. Supposed to trade Dillon SDB for Marlin next week. Have them scoped, iron sights, Williams receiver sights. Sold my Savage 99s. Used to think I like them because I was a lefty, then because cowboys used them, but finally decided they are just great guns and the 30-30 can handle anything in Tx that I am going to shoot out to 175 yds. Also have a Henry 22 that I think of selling, but haven't yet. Missed out on buying a Browning BLR in 308, my fault, had obligations and could not get to seller. I will find another.

If anyone has a Browning or Savage in a 308 I would be a buyer. I do not want a safe queen, have to be able to shoot it. Scope is optional, have several Leupys & Weavers that have served me for 20 years that I can use.

There's just something special about thumbing the hammer back on a lever gun when the big buck shows up. It just feels better and more positive than pushing a bolt gun safety off.

Kmon1, that is a sweet rig you have there. I also have an 1894 in .44 mag but , I'm looking into getting the trapper version like the one you got. I hope I can find one cause I've,been wanting one for some time and never see them listed for sale anymore. Again awesome gun and nice eating size pig.
