Everyone has their own opinion, what do you think about protein at feeders?

I prefer food plots if you can get them to grow in your area. If not, or a dry year, feed can help get the deer through the winter and post rut. I am not sold on its ability to grow bigger horns.....

I share your opinion on that, I haven't seen it make very much of a difference. What do you like to plant for your plots?

You can substitute alfalfa for clover. Both need to be kept mowed if the animals don't do it fast enough. they like the fresh growth.

If it doesn't rain soon, my plots will be toast. If that occurs, we are going to put a protein gravity feeder by each corn feeder. We will turn the corn down to 1 or 2 seconds and try to get them to eat the "healthier" protein. I will shut them down as soon as the spring forbs start to sprout

don't buy into the hype with all the new clovers, brassicas, rape, forage crap from the companies.....good ole winter wheat, oats and purple top turnips can't be beat.

I'm going to have to restart on my plots after this season, not growing as well as I expected them too. Still have some activity. Not as many bucks as I would like, quite a few doe though.

I just got the ok place this year. I saw 150" deer in Texas last year and let it walk. I let a 150/160 walk in Oklahoma this year as well. I already have a 190 class LF deer on my wall, so I am not really interested in anything under 180 in Kansas, 170 in Oklahoma and 160 in Texas.
I do kill a few doe/small bucks each year for meat.

You want to attract the doe, the bucks will come when it is breeding time!

There are more people living north of 635 and south of 380 in DFW than all of KS and OK. A lot less pressure

I usually see 3-7 doe most days. I did see a couple bucks two days ago, but it was so dark I couldn't make out whether they were legal or not. Hopefully they will show up on my camera in a few days.

You're right about that, hopefully I'll get the chance to make a trip up to Kansas in a couple of years. Our trophies here are cull bucks there.

I have 3 food plots, 4 corn feeders with a protein feeder in the pen with the corn feeder. We haven't had much rain so my food plots are looking pretty bad right now. The deer are eating the protein very heavy but don't do much with the corn. They can empty my protein feeders in a little over a month. This past weekend we just shot 2 big 11pts that were coming to the protein feeders just before dark. One weighed 175 on the hoof, the other 155. I believe that the protein definitely makes for bigger deer. I am in NE Stephens county.

What kind of protein do you use? It definately sounds like you're doing something right! Hahah Did it take them awhile to get used to the protein feeder?

What would you do on a power line? That's sort of my "honey hole" but it's not producing as much this year.

I started them on Antler Max but it had gotten higher as the season progressed so I let my fingers do the walking and found 11.00 for 16% protein and 11.50 for 20% protein at Farmers Milling on 6th St in Graham. They switched to it immediately and saved me about 2.00 a bag. You may have local mills that sell for much less in your AO.

All I feed is corn and lots of it.

Yes! A Weatherby does kill them deader.

We don't feed protein, but I've seen the effects. Larger deer, bigger and thicker racks. My best deer was around 115; after extensive management and a neighbor that feeds, I took a 140 two years ago that had really good mass not just in his beams but all the way out through his points.
