he stencil kit was Styx River - Shadow Grass The kit comes with 4 cans of paint. After reading several posts on this and other forums about that not being enough paint...I went ahead and ordered 4 more cans. Well that wasn't enough paint either. We ended up with a total of 16 cans of spray paint for the stencil. I used 2 quarts of primer and about 1/2 gallon of base coat. Plus 2 gallons of spray in liner - could have used 3, it's not as thick as I wanted, but will have to work for now. So, here is the first stencil on: And some after the second stencil And the final product, applying the third stencil

AH - now I know why that didn't work - guess I should read the rules some day. Thanks for letting me know the trick.
Thank you all for the great comments. I am really happy with it but I also wish I was completely done. Still lots to do before Nov. 3 - so, back to work.

Great job on the stencils!! I'm working on getting my boat finished up as well, my stencils should be here today. Good luck and keep the pics coming! Tips for the stenciling. I used an antenna (because it was handy) but a firm stick will work. I taped the top of the stencil on the antenna, which was set and/or held at the rail. Then used a dowel rod to hold the stencil against the side of the boat. Working in small sections at a time to get the stencil as close to the surface as possible. Also, on the final pattern, the mfg. calls for "sand tan" for the grass - but we also added a golden brown and a green that was spot-sprayed to add more realistic coloring. This was a 3-person job. I worked the stencil, the wife sprayed the tan and the boy sprayed the brown & green. The accent colors have to be applied right after the tan and not moving the stencil. This way you are over-spraying within the pattern and not end up with weird spots of paint.
