Here are a few pics from our trip last week to NM. We had warmer weather than normal, but still saw lots of wildlife. This was the year of the elk. We averaged seeing around 12 per day, which is far more than normal. We put down the miles hiking and glassing the valleys and ridges. Monday and Tuesday we saw a few young bulls and numerous cows, but we were looking for a big boy. We struck this bull’s trail Tuesday afternoon while scouting a valley with a waterhole nearby and were able to take him Wednesday morning at first light. Lots of work packing him out, but so worth it. The remainder of the trip we focused on Mule Deer, but the deer shut down. Never did see any mature Muley bucks worth taking, but did see a pretty decent 5x5. We were in good country and after a "great" deer so we passed. We got out just ahead of a snow storm. As always I am grateful for God's blessing to spend time in his creation and the opportunity to take such an animal. Hope you enjoy the pics.

Cool old settlers' cabins

Not sure what kind of birds the blue ones are but they sure were pretty

This group grazed within 15 yards and never knew I was there

Believe it or not, he wound up like this after the shot.

That is a great Elk! The scenery is very beautiful, I like the pictures. The two birds to the far left in the picture are robins, I'm not sure what the other ones are though.

Well gents this trip now has a sour end. Apparently my two rifles were just stolen out of my FIL's truck on the way home. One can be replaced as it was only 5 years old or so, but the other belonged to my Grandfather and is one of the few things I have left of him. Hoping the cops can find something, but realistic to know it's not likely.
