I've missed some does trying headshots.
Never missed a buck or lost one do far
For it is not the quarry that we truly seek, but the adventure.

well acording to Dan you dont deserve to be in the woods and missing is just plum unacceptable I will admit it, im 32 and ive shot alot of deer. Never missed one.....and never shot one that i didnt find...til Saturday evening. Me and the misses were going to dinner but i talked her into going to a friends place to sit in the truck and see what came out the last 1.5 hrs of the evening. Low and behold a doe pops out with 30 min of shooting time left...followed by a huge 10 point and a 3 point. I get outta the truck, shoot about 200 yards and miss. Buck runs into the brush, so i walked that way...at about 80 yards he walks out again and i shoot. Found hair and a little blood but no buck. Had 6 people looking for hours and nothing. The next morning i go back and shoot a 300lb boar then see the 3pt and doe but big boy wasnt there. Looked for hours yesterday and nothing. Guess im just gonna have to wait for the buzzards. Im sick...but we have searched every nook of the place and no more blood or anything. Probably spend 15 hours searching plus my friends time that have helped. Honestly i hope he is just grazed but cant get it outta my head that he might be dead.

I missed a good buck I walked up on and watched while sitting in the road for about thirty minutes hoping for a better shot. I sat in the road and tried a 200 yard shot while he was facing me with his head down eating corn. So my shot was too the back of his neck or shoulders, that is all I could see. After watching through my scope while making a decision my arms were jelly and my heart was racing! While we're at it let's here some guesstimates on age! Here he is from my game cam:

Missed a nice one Saturday morning. Popped out 40 yards to my right, crossed in front of my stand about 10 yards from me, but it was still to dark. Couldn't tell if it was a shooter til the light got up enough to see his silhouette in the scope when he was about 180 yards from me. If he would've come out 1 minute later, he would've been a dead deer. Jumped the fence and was gone right before I could see clearly enough to shoot. Saw 10-15 around midnight when I went to look for hogs. Saw one deer Saturday morning, nothing in the evening, a spike and a decent 8 point Saturday night when we went to reset the feeder, nothing Sunday morning, and Nothing sunday evening.

As someone already noted, if you didn't shoot, you didn't miss. Sometimes things just work out and give the animal a win. With a little luck, you'll get to play against him again one day.

I've only missed one deer. That was 30-something years ago, out of San Angelo. Jumped a big buck in a header on Grape Creek. He was running up the opposing side of the header and I was banging away at him with .264 Win Mag. Never got close. That's when I decided it just wasn't worth it to shoot at running deer.

Lol the only one I saw was on the road driving in. Plenty of prints but nada in the bag for me. At least I didn't waste a shot though I suppose.
Tyler County just passed Livingston.
