Why do you consider him a cull?

A cull to me may not be a cull to someone else therefor if you think its a cull then shoot him and eat him

I can see calling it a management deer, more so than a cull.

I think that is an excellent "management trophy" at prolly 4.5 with a 3.5 Y O looking set of horns.

Please explain the difference between "management" and "cull". To me they both mean putting an arrow through him to remove him from the herd. Either way, good luck removing your cull/management/genetically-inferior-than-desired buck.

I would think a cull is a buck that has genetic deficiencies and a management buck is a mature buck that has reached its full potential or atleast close to it and isn't up to par with the other mature bucks on the property.

If he is 4.5, I find no fault with your logic.
Take him out.

To me a management deer is an older deer that is 4.5 plus and is not the size or genetics that is expected or wanted for that particular area or ranch and a cull is a deer that is obviously genetically inferior, meaning spike or spike one side and regular on the other, etc and age is not a factor. There is a huge difference between the two but it also is different, depending on where you hunt. Where I hunt in south Texas that deer would be shot no questions asked and labeled a management deer but where I hunt in Evant 8 pointers is the dominant gene and there's no changing that so it would have to be 5.5 plus to be shot and considered your trophy for the year. To big of variables but I wouldn't get offended at people's opinions when your ask for them on a public forum. To be politically correct if you study deer management by the book that deer would never be labeled a cull buck but who cares it is what you wanna call it and only you.

What I don't like about calling a deer of that caliber a cull is.There are a lot of people on here that will never see or for that matter shoot a deer like that. After reading that the deer in the picture is refered to as a cull is an insult to them if they shoot a lesser deer. How can they post a picture on here and be proud of what they took if there are those that will tell them.
You shot a cull, or you should have waited a few more years before that deer was worth taking. Why don't you just put a picture on here and say this is the deer I am going to try to hunt and leave it at that.

The term "management" to me describes a deer that's not a trophy, at least not in my book. In my opinion it's just a polite term for a cull, which is just a less desirable management deer.

If the above pictured buck is about a big as they get in your area then he's not a management or cull. I've hunted many places where that buck would truly be a trophy. I've hunted places where that buck is an honest to God cull.

I've shot many an 8 point that was much bigger than the one above and they were considered culls. So, I guess these terms are relative to location and size of the area bucks.

Lol you have got to be kidding right? Im sorry I hurt someones feelings calling that 120 inch 8 point is a cull. You sir are the reason people like me dont post pictures of deer or post on this website at all....

I would hate to show the pictures of the 170 we are hunting because someone else might "Never see a deer like that in their lives"

lmao.... happy hunting my people!

Hahahaha! Can't even ask a question on here anymore. I'm no "professional" hunter by any means but I do possess common sense and know that everything is relative. That's not a trophy on my place either but I've been to places it would be. No need to get butt hurt and overthink it. I bet he'll taste as good as any other, cull or otherwise. Good luck

I think he's at least 4.5, need better pictures. He'd be a "cull" on our place, whatever you want to call it, he'd probably get shot by a kid. We have much better deer than that, and he isn't showing a ton of potential.
