What's your primary weapon of choice in a home invasion and why? No over-exaggeration either please, let's all play nice this time...

For me, it's going to be a pump or semi-auto 12 gauge loaded with low-recoil #1 buckshot. Same penetration as 00, more pellets and more coverage.

I had a Remington 870 loaded by the bed until I sold it, and until I pick up a suitable replacement, it's going to be my M&P9c loaded with Speer 124gr Gold Dots.

whichever is closest...
in the bed room it's a single shot 12 with 00 gives me time to pick up the 22 revolver for follow up if needed.

in the tv room it's that 22 rev or whatever gun I happen to be messing with that night.

The reason those are the two, go to guns is because they are the 2 I would least mind losing if I had a daytime break in.

The closest one .....
Usually a glock 22 or 23 but possibly one of 2 870s or if there was time to think about it and choose, one of my ARs ......556 or 6.8.

I'm just wondering why you guys think a .22 revolver is a suitable defense weapon.

.22's are man-killers no doubt. Small, yes of course but once they enter they bounce around which is both good and bad. I'm diggin the answers

EDC glock 26 because it's closest, otherwise a mossberg 500 18" barrel loaded with 00.

confused

Why not use something that produces substantial tissue cavitation upon entry, rather than counting on a bounce off bones?

depends...during the day, whatever was closest. At night, LCR with crimson trace. Even if I don't fire it, nothing like that red laser for in the dark. Currently using .38+p Winchester Ranger.

I'm wondering how its not....? Pretty certain it'll do the job just fine. Sure there's better options but a 22 will do.

Mossberg 590 with 00 buck. Using an AR or high velocity pistol ammo is stupid if you live close to neighbors or have other people in the house. That's called neglegant homicide or manslaughter if you over penetrate and kill someone on the other side.

Guess let me rephrase that. If I had anyone in the house I would not use a pistol unless it was frangable ammo or safety slugs. I would never us a high velocity rifle round like the AR or AK.

No this is a great point. This is go-to weapon. Why take a varmint caliber revolver over something else? Yes sometimes they bounce other times they won't penetrate the skull. Or if it hits soft tissue from what I've heard .22 dont expand well and may go straight through. I haven't tested that though so take it for what it's worth. It's better than nothing yes but for my go to, the more damage the better.

whats going to keep 00 buck from going thru dry wall??? unless i shoot thru a window rounds are not going out side and i live down stairs so not going to hit any one ...doesn't it really come down to training if you train the ammo wont matter ... or do you just shoot wildly at walls and door hoping you going to hit the intruder...

Beats the heck out of a bat.
I know I don't want to get shot with a 22 probably neither does a burgular.
I used to be the hit man weapon of choice back in the gangster days.
I'm 57 and haven't had to shoot anyone yet... probably won't have too in my life time.
And as I said it's one of the guns I'd least hate to loose in a day time break in.
A lot of stuff has been killed with a 22.
