I just got back from a road trip to Fisher(Rotan)Kent(Jayton)Dickens(Dickens and Spur). I saw and heard good number of quail on all leases. I did not see any little quail. The cover was average in Dickens, slightly above average in Kent and above average in Fisher. Fisher county had had the most recent rain and then kent and then dickens. We need rains in all areas. I drove from austin on friday and back on sunday and it was amazing how 3 days of 100 degree weather hurt the looks of the country.

I've got a lot of pairs running around my little place, but also have not seen any little ones yet. Could use some more rain.

Lots of pairs of blues in Val Verde and eastern Terrell counties, even some pairs of Bobs, but NO babies. No rain to speak of either. Temps have been around 103 to 107 the last few days.

Was out at our place this morning and saw several pairs but no chicks. My outfitter says its early and there has been hatches as late as November. Pray for rains at the right time for the clutches and poults.

Still not seeing any babies in my area, Still seeing lots of pairs. Saw a rooster and hen pheasant this a.m., no babies with them either. And I second the pray for rain comment, we are nearly to the point of getting desperate.

I finally saw the first covey of the year with babies a few minutes ago. They were in the neighbors place heading towards mine. Saw the two big ones and about 10 babies. They get plenty to eat around here with all the spilled corn and protein around from where we've been running the auger.

We've seen several pairs and young birds in the last month. Our place is in Ellis County. Lots of cover and food too.

My boss went to his place near rotan north of sweetwater (1st of july) & said he saw & heard lots of quail. It was good hunting last year.

Maggie, do you believe you saw all of the chicks, clutch of 4 is not good news, although it is better than 1 or 2. I got a good report from my lease today. Several sighting of large clutches of chicks. Let keep our fingers crossed.

Tigger..I spoke with Chad..see "Panhandle hunts" under Deer Hunting thread. He had good reports for both quail and turkey hatches up in the Childress area.

What are you hearing about the turkey hatch up on your leases?
