So, I shot a medium sized Aoudad last weekend and my son wanted to try doing a european mount with it just for fun. We got it fleshed out, and boiled and scraped the skull, but I was doing some reading I found mention of needing to remove the horns to clean out the connective tissue. What is the best way to accomplish this?

MUST remove the horns. Rotting tissue and skin underneath there.

Place the entire skull in a black trash bag with a little water and tie shut. Leave in the sun for a few days, then they will slip right off!

I am betting since the skull is cleaned and he has already boiled the skull...the meat around the horns will be hard as heck and this will take some time to slip off.
It is much much easier when the skull is fresh to do this trick of getting the horns off.

The best thing I do is submerge horns in water until horns loosen. The warmer the weather the better. May take a week to a month. Sometimes if they are a little loose yiu can hit with a rubber mallet. Good luck to you and congrats.

Thanks, y'all. I'll get it soaking and let you know how it turns out. Is there anything I can add to the water to help the process along that won't discolor the horns?

beer, or if you don't want to sacrifice your brew, some yeast to speed up bacteria growth.

With no meat on the skull it is gonna take awhile for any bacteria to start growing to speed up the process.
I would just soak a side at a time in warm water and cut underneath the horns with a sharp knife or scalpel every so often to get it started. Then hammer with a rubber mallet about after a week or so soaking to kncok it off. Then repeat.
